ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: An arms dealer’s shop at F-8 was sealed after the police recovered prohibited bore weapons from there on Saturday.
The police said they tried to intercept an applied-for Suzuki pickup near the PTCL exchange at F-8 but the driver sped away.
The police, however, chased the vehicle and intercepted it. Two persons on board the vehicle escaped while two others were arrested.
The police searched the vehicle and recovered prohibited bore weapons, including six Kalashnikovs, six 222 rifles, five 12-bore rifles, four 8mm rifles and four 7mm rifles.
The arrested persons were identified as Hazrat Wali and Imdadullah, residents of Chamkani in Peshawar. During interrogation, they said the weapons belonged to an arm dealer at F-8 Markaz and were being transported to Peshawar for replacement.
A police team raided the arm dealer’s shop in the presence of a magistrate and recovered another cache of prohibited bore weapons.
These included two 7mm rifles, one mm rifle, over 200 bullets and 50 magazines. A senior police officer told Dawn that the shop remained closed for the last about two years.
He said it seemed not an armed dealer’s shop but an arms storage centre.
