Two killed in Kohat

KOHAT, Aug 10: Two people were killed and five including two passers-by injured in separate incidents of firing in the city and road accident on Indus highway here on Wednesday.

A passenger was killed and three injured when a Lakki Marwat bound car coming from Peshawar collided head-on with a Shehzore pickup near Somari Cross on the Indus Highway.

The collision was so intense that inmate of the car, Azad Bakht, died on the spot while Faheemullah, Jan Bakht and Roshan Khan sustained serious injuries.

In another incident, four men including Qayyum, Faheem, Raheem and Shamaon shot and killed Ashraf Khan over an old enmity in Biana Baba springs in Jungle Khel area of city. Two passers-by Ashraf and Fazal Saeed received injuries who were admitted to the KDA Hospital. —Correspondent Faulty transformer

TIMERGARA, Aug 10: Protesters demanding restoration of power supply to Koz Kalay here on Wednesday warned to turn violent if the authorities failed to replace the faulty transformer in the area.

Dozens of local residents held a protest demonstration in front of the Timergara Press Club. They were chanting slogans against provincial minister Nawabzada Mehmood Zeb Khan and Pesco.

Later, speaking at a news conference, former councilor Mohammad Yousaf of JI, Ataullah Khan of PPP, Malik Inamullah Khan of PTI and others alleged that the provincial minister was doing nothing for the people of his constituency.

They said the transformer went out of order a month ago. “We collected Rs30,000 from the people and repaired it on our own but it again went out of order,” they said, adding the poor community was unable to repair it again. —Correspondent Man convicted in murder case

NOWSHERA, Aug 10: A local court convicted an accused in a murder case here on Wednesday and awarded him life imprisonment with a fine of Rs500,000.

The additional district and sessions judge, Syed Muamber Jan, convicted Fayaz Khan resident of Ziarat Kaka Sahib and ordered him to pay Rs500,000 to the family of Bashiruddin, who had been killed in 2007. Bashiruddin had been shot dead when he was going to his office. Later, the police arrested the accused and sent him to Peshawar Central Jail.

Meanwhile, a rocket was fired by miscreant at Malangi police post late on Tuesday night. Police said that the rocket failed to hit the target. —Correspondent

Gifts distributed

MANSEHRA, Aug 10: An international charity organisation has distributed Eid gifts among 100 orphans and poor people in Kotli area on Wednesday.

Vice-Chancellor of Hazara University Syed Sakhawat Shah was the chief gust on the occasion held at the Government High School, Kotli on Wednesday.

Mr Shah distributed gifts among the children which were donated by Human Appeal International.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Sakhawat Shah said that Islam asks Muslims to extend all sorts of help to the orphans and needy so that they could become respectable citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, the representative of HAI, Akhtar Naeem, said that the organisation would distribute Rs3 million gifts in different district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa before Eidul Fitr. —Correspondent

Police behaviour

PESHAWAR, Aug 10: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toru has directed police officials across the province to adopt decent and polite behaviour with the general public.

These instructions were given to all regional police officers and district police officers in a special circular issued from the central police office here on Wednesday.

The officials have been directed to come out of the archaic colonial behaviour and become a police force having respect for rule of law and all fundamental human rights. The IGP warned in the circular that obnoxious and high-handed behaviour of police officials shall not be tolerated at all. —Bureau Report

Medical college in Charsadda

PESHAWAR, Aug 10: A meeting on Wednesday at Chief Minister House deliberated upon establishment of Medical College in Charsadda and upgradation of sub-campus of Abdul Wali Khan University at Palosa in Charsadda.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Qazi Asad presided over the meeting whereas Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Sardar Hussein Babak, Adviser to Chief Minister Syed Masoom Shah, Vice-Chancellor Abdul Wali Khan University, Special Secretary to Chief Minister Waqarul Hassan and Chief Planning Officers Afsar Said and Zaman Khan Marwat attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed in detail purchase of land, establishment of endowment fund recurring budget and appointment of project director. —APP
