Profiteers fined

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The capital administration on Thursday imposed Rs5,000 fine on profiteers in Aabpara Market.

Assistant commissioner City Circle Mohammad Ali Randhawa raided the markets and found 25 shopkeepers involved in overcharging.

It was also observed that a large number of shopkeepers have not displayed the rates of edible items.

About a dozen shopkeepers who have not displayed price lists were warned and asked to avoid the practices.

Earlier, AC Randhawa raided Sitara Market and imposed Rs2,000 fine on profiteers. — Staff Reporter

Addict killed

TAXILA, Aug 9: An addict killed his comrade here on Tuesday after a dispute over sharing the drug dose.

Police said Mohammad Ashraf came to the house of Mohammad Naseer to take drugs. But as they had scuffle over the share, Naseer attacked Ashraf with a dagger and killed him on the spot.

Police registered a case against the accused and arrested him. — Correspondent

Three vehicles recovered

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The Aabpara police during the last two months arrested three car snatchers and recovered three vehicles, police said on Tuesday.

Besides, the police also arrested 21 narcotics peddlers and recovered one kilogram charas and one kilogram heroin. the team also arrested three persons and recovered three pistols from them.

During the period, the police arrested eight proclaimed offenders for their alleged involvement in heinous crime. — Staff Reporter

Transformer out of order

ATTOCK, Aug 9: The transformer of an Attock city locality has been lying broken down for the last three days, causing great hardship for the fasting consumers of the area, it has been learnt.

A number of residents of Muhallah Awan Sharif told Dawn that on complaint, the local Iesco staff removed the faulty transformer but could not replace it, as a result of which the residents of the area were forced to spend sleepless nights and days in hot and humid weather.

On frequent complaints and requests, the Iesco line staff installed the same transformer after repair on Monday evening but after just a few minutes it again broke down. — Correspondent

Substandard flour

TAXILA, Aug 9: People visiting the Sasta bazaar in Hassanabdal have complained about sale of substandard wheat flour.

“We are forced to buy low quality flour despite the presence of teams to check adulteration,” Zafar Iqbal, a shopper, told Dawn. He said officials were not moving against profiteers and adulterators.

Noorul Ain, another shopper, alleged that the millers were mixing bran in flour, challenging all government claims of ensuring supply of quality flour. — Correspondent

CT scan machine not repaired

RAWALPINDI, Aug 9: Despite the passage of a week, the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital administration could not get the CT scan machine repaired.

Talking to Dawn, the Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Sher Ali Khan said that the company which provided the machine was not removing the fault.

He said that he made many telephone calls to the company to repair the machine but his requests landed on deaf ears.

He said that he wrote a letter to Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) Principal Prof. Dr. Afzal Farooqi to intervene into the matter and also suggested to blacklist the company for not repairing the CT scan machine.

He said that according to warranty, the company had to remove the fault. — A Reporter

Sasta bazaars

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: Sasta bazaars established in the capital have failed to provide quality food items to the people during Ramazan.

Prices of edibles have not come down despite the fact that local administration has set up four Sasta bazaars and 35 fair price shops in the capital.

The rate list prescribed for Sasta bazaars of the capital has fixed the price of potatoes at Rs31 per kg, onions Rs21 per kg, tomatoes Rs29 per kg, ginger Rs102 per kg, lemon Rs118 per kg, ladyfinger Rs22 per kg, pumpkin Rs28 per kg and peas Rs88 per kg.

The consumers said not only the rates at Sasta bazaars are higher but quality of fruits and vegetable is not good.

They said beef and mutton is not available in Sasta bazaar of G-7, adding that the authorities earlier had claimed that bazaar will provide all food and non food items. — APP

Encroachments removed

RAWALPINDI, Aug 9: The Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) anti-encroachment staff on Tuesday imposed fines of Rs11,000 on 11 shopkeepers and removed encroachments from Liaquat Bagh, Raja Bazaar, Iqbal Road, Sabzi Mandi, Gunjmandi, Namak Mandi and adjoining bazaars.

The spokesman of RTMA said that the town administrator took serious notice of obstacles on main roads during Iftar and asked the staff to work in double shifts and remove all encroachments to provide better traveling facilities to the motorists and pedestrians.

He warned the RTMA staff of stern action if they failed to remove the encroachment within stipulated time frame. — A Reporter
