RAWALPINDI, Aug 7: An additional district and sessions judge ordered registration of a case against three policemen for kidnapping a person, sources said on Sunday.

Khyzir Hayat, resident of Attock, in his petition filed in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Kaleem Khan maintained that he was kidnapped, kept in illegal detention and tortured by three policemen, Mazhar Iqbal, Mohammad Iqbal and Kamran Ali of Pirwadhai police station and demanded Rs100,000 ransom for his release.

He claimed the policemen threatened to implicate him in illegal weapon case if he failed to pay the ransom.

However, the Pirwadhai police registered only kidnapping case while the medical report of Khyzir Hayat clearly indicated that he was tortured.

In his petition, Khyzir Hayat said he was abducted by three policemen when he was waiting for a taxi at GPO Rawalpindi. He said the policemen came there in a car and one of them introduced himself as an SHO. He said they dragged him into the car and took him to a double-storey building near Pirwadhai police station.

He said they kept him in a private torture cell for three days and beat him up with iron rods and demanded Rs100,000 ransom for his release.

He said as he could not pay the amount, they implicated him in a car theft case and produced him in the court for remand. After hearing his plea, the court realised that the police were in the wrong and finally he was released.

Shortly after his release, he filed a petition in the court of additional district and sessions judge seeking permission for medical examination and pleading registration of a case against the policemen.

In his complaint, he said the medical examination also strengthened his claim that he was tortured in illegal detention. Khyzir Hayat said he came to Rawalpindi for the medical check-up of his sister at the CMH.

Following the orders of the additional district and sessions judge, a case on the charges of kidnapping was registered against the three policemen who had been facing suspension these days.
