Two die on road

PESHAWAR, Aug 4: Two people, including a rescuer of 1122, were killed in a road accident here early on Thursday.

Rescue 1122 spokesman Aruj Sherazi said security guard Sher Abbas was killed, when the motorcycle he was riding along with another employee to bring food for Sehr from Garhi Qamardin, collided with another motorcycle.

The spokesman said three people, including Rehman ul Haq of Dir district, Ubaidullah of Badbher and Ibadullah of Kaga Wala sustained multiple injuries, who were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital. It was learnt that Ibadullah succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Body of the deceased Sher Abbas was shifted to his native Karak district and Ibadullah to Kaga Wala. —Bureau Report

Three smugglers arrested

KOHAT, Aug 4: The police on Thursday seized several kilograms of hashish on Kohat-Hangu Road, which was being smuggled from Orakzai Agency into Punjab and Sindh.

Harvest and manufacturing of hashish in Orakzai Agency is at its peak these days with influential smugglers being able to sneak into down country with vehicles loaded with hashish.

Acting on a tip-off the cantonment police intensified checking on the Kohat-Hangu road and stopped a suspicious car number B-8296 which was coming from Orakzai Agency. Upon checking the police team found 22kg of high quality hashish which was hidden in the secret cavities.

The police also arrested the three member gang of smugglers including Zulfiqar Shah of Tehkal, Peshawar and two brothers, Siddique Ullah and Hayat Ullah, residents of Hangu. —Correspondent

Workers stage protest

TIMERGARA, Aug 4: Hundreds of workers of political parties of Jandol Samar Bagh on Thursday held a protest demonstration in front of Timergara Press Club against unscheduled and prolonged loadshedding.

Later, speaking at a news conference Izazul Mulk and Sarbiland Khan of the JI, Shafiullah of the PPP, Sadawar Khan of the JUI-F, Shah Murad Khan of the ANP, Mohammad Wahab of the PML-N, president Anjuman Tajaran Samar Bagh Dost Rahman and Ihsanullah Khuglan said loadshedding had made their lives miserable.

They said due to prolonged outages businesses had suffered and the water shortage had become acute. They warned to block main roads in the area and surround offices of the Pesco if loadshedding was not stopped. —Correspondent

Minor drowns

KOHAT, Aug 4: A six-year-old boy drowned in a pond created by heavy rains in Garhi Rauf Khan in Kohat city on Thursday.

Allahyar, son of Abdur Rehman, was playing outside his home when he drowned in the pond. His body was handed over to relatives after post mortem in the Liaquat Memorial Hospital. —Correspondent

Profiteers fined

LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 4: Several shopkeepers were fined in Naurang and Gandi localities for violating the official pricelist and selling substandard daily use commodities on high rates.

Following the directives of DCO Nisar Ahmad, ACO Syed Khalid Israr Shah paid surprise visits to several bazaars in Naurang town and Gandi area to check the prices of food items and ensure availability of commodities during Ramazan.

The ACO expressed his anger over the sale of low quality foodstuffs in the open market. He also took serious notice of the poor hygienic condition and sale of water adulterated meat in the bazaars.

Mr Israr also expressed dismay over the non-availability of official pricelists in several business outlets. He imposed on spot fines on the violators and warned that the administration would deal with the hoarders, profiteers and price hikers strictly. —Correspondent

Accused set free

PESHAWAR, Aug 4: One Amjad Hussain, a resident of Murree Road, Abbottabad has demanded action against a deputy superintendent of police for releasing an accused involved in stealing his Rs85,000 on July 7.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar press club on Thursday the complainant said one of his former workers, Orangzeb of Haripur, along with his friend, Saeed, had stolen the amount and some documents from his bag and disappeared. The case, he said had been registered at Baknother police station on July 28 and the police had also arrested the accused, Saeed, from Ganj Mandi Rawalpindi, who remained in police custody for one day.

But, he added on July 29 DSP Ali Akhter Khan took bribe from the accused and released him. —Bureau Report

Government contractors

KARAK, Aug 4: The contractors association of Karak has alleged the non-technical committee formed by the lawmakers for checking quality of development works was making undue interference in their job.

During a meeting on Thursday, the government contractors said they would boycott new tenders if the committee’s interference was not stopped within a week. The meeting was attended by a large number of contractors, including Mohammad Janan, Luqman Khattak, Hassan Badshah, Sajjad Khan, Abdur Razaq, Shahid Khattak and Asmatullah. The association’s president said the members of the non-technical committee were making undue interference in the work of the contractors. He complained the communication and works and public health engineering departments were giving tenders of the development works to the blue-eyed of the lawmakers. —Correspondent
