MNA sent to jail

ISLAMABAD, July 25: Senior Civil Judge on Monday granted 14-day judicial remand of MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan who is facing trial for his alleged involvement in a fraud case.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced Anjum Aqeel before the court after the completion of the physical remand period. The record obtained from National Police Foundation in this case, was presented before the court. The court, after hearing the arguments from the both the sides, rejected the application to dismiss the case and ordered to send Anjum Aqeel to jail on judicial remand. The hearing into this case was adjourned for two weeks. — APP

Man dies in accident

CHAKWAL, July 25: A motorcyclist was killed after he collided with a tractor, police said on Monday.

Azmat Bibi, a resident of Chak Bazeed village, told police that her husband Mohammad Illyas left house on motorbike. Near Dhab Pari Mor, a tractor-trolley hit him. He died on the spot as the driver of the tractor fled.

Police have registered a case and started efforts to trace the driver. —Correspondent

House looted

CHAKWAL, July 25: Robbers struck at two places and looted more than Rs1.8 million, police said on Monday.

Amjad Ali Shah, a resident of Dhairi Syedan village, told police that four masked and armed persons stormed his house on Sunday night and took away Rs1,480,000 and jewellery worth Rs300,000.

In another incident, Mohammad Sajawal, a resident of Vairo village, told Saddar police that he along with his friend was coming to Chakwal city when he was stopped by highwaymen near Maingan village. The bandits snatched Rs70,000 and from Amjad while his friend was robbed of Rs10,000. — Correspondent

Vehicle stolen

CHAKWAL, July 25: A vehicle was stolen from Talagang Road, police said on Monday. Sajjad Hussain, a resident of Chak Umra village, told City police that he had parked his van in the front of Govt College and went to offer prayers. When he came back, the vehicle was missing. — Correspondent

Rs120m allocated for uplift

CHAKWAL, July 25: Various development projects will be launched in NA 61 and Rs120 million have been earmarked for the purpose.

MNA Sardar Mumtaz Tamman while talking to reporters said that major chunk of the development fund would be spent on the construction of various roads in the constituency. He said that thirteen schools would be expanded while three water supply schemes would also be completed. He said he was giving special attention to the villages of tehsil Chakwal.

He said that the Punjab chief minister would provide Rs30 million for a water supply scheme in Kallar Kahar as the town was facing acute water shortage. — Correspondent

PARC assured support

ISLAMABAD, July 25: Secretary Scientific and Technical Research Division Akhlaq Ahmed Tarar visited the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) on Monday and assured the agro-research body of full support to all its projects on priority basis.

After devolution of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to the provinces, the PARC has become a part of the Scientific and Technical Research Division.

Mr Tarar said that the PARC role in the agro-based economy of the country was very important. He said that the restructuring of PARC would play a significant role in making the organisation vibrant and the fruits of the research would be shifted to farmers.

Earlier, PARC Chairman Dr Muhammad Afzal briefed Mr Tarar about the research activities currently being undertaken in various disciplines of agriculture and said the council had developed its research agenda in accordance with the government policies. — Staff Reporter

Body found

TAXILA, July 25: A man was found dead in the house of his in-laws in Muneerabad village of Wah Saddar police station on Sunday. Police said that Mohammad Imran came to the house of his in-laws and stayed there. At night, some robbers entered into their house.

The police said that Mohammad Imran resisted their bid to loot the house. At this, the robbers shot him dead and fled away. When contacted, SHO Raja Mohammad Saeed said that the circumstances in which the young man was found dead were mysterious. — Correspondent
