LAHORE, July 21: Misri Shah police arrested three people, including a scrap dealer, for allegedly kidnapping an on-duty traffic warden from Co-op Store Chowk and illegally detaining him at a godown on Thursday.

Traffic Warden Chaudhry Nawaz complained to the police that he signaled a car to stop for reckless driving due to the driver's engagement with his cell phone. He said the driver started wrangling with him when he asked about the rash driving.

The warden said the man on steering, who introduced himself as Shahzad Ahmed alias Goshi, thrashed him in the presence of two other occupants of the car.

Instead of issuing a fine ticket, the warden said he asked them to go to the local police station, but they took him to a godown where he was detained.

Nawaz claimed his colleague after witnessing the incident alerted the Rescue 15 police. At this, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Ahmad Mobeen ordered City Traffic SP Mustafa Hameed Malik to reach the scene and recover the warden.

A good number of policemen located the godown of Shahzad where a large number of people were already gathered and recovered the detained warden.

Police have registered a case against the accused. —Staff Reporter
