Man booked

ATTOCK, July 19: A person was booked for threatening his former wife to withdraw court proceedings against him, the police sources said on Tuesday.

Pindigheb police station registered a case against Yasir Arafat on the complaint of his former wife for threatening her to withdraw the case against him. She said in her complaint that Yasir Arafat divorced her in December last year and since then she had been living with her son. After divorce, she had filed a case in the civil court against her former husband for payment of expenditures.

She said that she received a call on her cell phone of her former husband on Monday. She said that he threatened her of dire consequences if she did not withdraw the case against him. After registering the case, the police launched further investigation. — Correspondent

Two bike lifters remanded

ISLAMABAD, July 19: The court of special magistrate remanded two accused motorbike lifters in the custody of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said during interrogation the accused confessed that they had lifted motorcycles and disclosed the location where they had disposed of two vehicles.

Meanwhile, Kohsar police on a tip-off, arrested a liquor bootlegger and recovered 10 bottles of liquor from him. — Staff Reporter

Three police officials sacked

ATTOCK, July 19: Three policemen were sacked while eight others awarded punishments for misconduct and showing negligence in their duties.

The district police headquarters said here on Tuesday that SI Mohammad Arsam was terminated from his service on misbehaving with the seniors and committing other serious misconduct. Moreover, two constables Aqeel Ahmed and Maqsood Ahmed were sacked for remaining absent from their duties. Two-year service of SHO Basal police station Inspector Mohammad Aslam was forfeited and his one-year increment was withheld.

Similarly, five-year service of three constables Adnan Ahmed, Majid Dawood and Amir Shehzad and two-year service of SI Liaqut Ali were also forfeited on different complaints. One-year increment of In-charge Faqirabad police post SI Ghazanfar and ASI Mumtaz Akhtar have also been stopped. SI Sajjad Hussain has been served censure on some complaints.— Correspondent

Doctors go on strike

ISLAMABAD, July 19: A few young doctors of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) went on strike on Tuesday partially disrupting the services at out-patient-department. The doctors decided to go on strike after they failed to get a permanent position in new pay scale announced recently.

An official spokesman for Pims told Dawn: “The matter has already been taken up by the officials of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD).”

Most of the protesting doctors who could not get a permanent job letter were working as daily wagers.

These doctors were employed on temporary basis against the posts on which permanent doctors took leaves and were working abroad. — Staff Reporter

Award conferred

ISLAMABAD, July 19: A woman officer of District Management Group has been conferred the knighthood of “Ordre National du Merite” by President Nicholas Sarkozy of France for rendering distinguished and extraordinary services for strengthening and promoting cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Pakistan and France.

French Ambassador in Pakistan Daniel Jouanneau conferred the award on Amna Imran Khan at an impressive award ceremony held at the embassy on Tuesday.

The “Ordre National du Merite” (National Order of Merit) is an order of state awarded by the President of the FrenchRepublic. The award is mostly meant for French Nationals, but in very rare cases is awarded to foreigners.—Our Reporter
