LAHORE, July 14: A judicial magistrate of Cantonment Courts on Thursday denied the police physical remand of a blind boy linked to motorcycle theft and quashed the FIR.

Magistrate Qaiser Imam admonished investigation officer Mushtaq Ahmad of the South Cantonment police station and asked: “can a blind man steal a motorcycle”?

However, the policeman did not defend himself.

Lawyer Fayaz Ahmad on behalf of Muhammad Ali told the court the accused was blind by birth and all members of his family were also blind. He said the police implicated Ali in a motorcycle theft case registered by CIA police 16 months ago.

The magistrate took notice of Ali’s arrest and observed that the police implicated innocent people in cases to cover up its inefficiency.

He exonerated Ali, told the police to quash the FIR against him and recommended departmental action against the investigation officer.
