LAHORE, July 13: Robbers killed a trader and injured three others besides looting cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in separate incidents in the provincial capital on Wednesday.

Three robbers shot dead a 45-year-old trader and took away Rs200,000 cash during a shop robbery at Chaudhry Chowk in the limits of Nishtar Colony police station.

Police said the outlaws entered the shop of Muhammad Jameel and looted a bag containing cash at gunpoint. The shopkeeper captured one of the fleeing robbers, but his accomplice injured him with gunshot fires. Jameel, the father of four, died while being transported to Lahore General Hospital.

The police shifted the body for an autopsy and registered a robbery-cum-murder case.

Six robbers looted Rs562,000 in cash from a bank and injured a security guard at Gawalmandi Chowk on Wednesday.

Gawalmandi police said three robbers barged in Al Habib Bank’s branch, held staff and customers hostage and looted cash.

The robbers also injured the security guard with an iron rod.

Three robbers stormed into Ansari Shoes at Saddar Bazaar in North Cantonment police limits and deprived owner Haji Sarfraz Ali of Rs200,000 and a cell phone.

The outlaws also shot at and wounded employee Asif Husain when he offered resistance.

Four robbers barged in the house of Ibrahim in Township and shot at and wounded him on resistance. The suspects, however, fled empty-handed.

Two robbers approached Zaheeruddin Babar in Hunjarwal and snatched Rs11.5 million at gunpoint.

Two robbers entered the shop of Haji Muhammad Ali Ahmad in Ichhra and plundered cash and valuables worth Rs500,000.

Three robbers stormed into the house of Malik Farooq in Baghbanpura and looted cash and valuables worth Rs300,000 while two muggers stormed into the house of Aftab Saqib in Model Town and looted cash and valuables worth Rs150,000.

KILLED: A 65-year-old man was gunned down and his son was injured by their rivals in Shadbagh here on Wednesday.

Shadbagh police said that Zafar Ahmad, Nazir Ahmad and three others entered the house of their relative Muhammad Anwar in Wasanpura Scheme No II and fled after shooting Anwer and his son Khurram Shahzad. They were ferried to Mayo Hospital where the former died.

Police said the motive for the shooting appeared to be a marriage dispute of Anwer’s son Khurram.

Police have registered a case against Khurram’s former father-in-law Nazir Ahmad and present father-in-law Zafar Ahmad of Gujrat and their three accomplices on the complaint of Anwer’s son Serwer and arrested two of them.

MYSTERIOUS DEATH: Islampura police said that 60-year-old Din Muhammad of Bastami Road, Samanabad, died at Mayo Hospital on Wednesday shortly after he was spotted unconscious at a footpath near Aiwan-e-Adl.

The police said a post-mortem examination would reveal the exact cause of death.
