KARACHI, July 13: A man was shot dead while his associate was wounded by unidentified gunmen within the remit of the Kharadar police station in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

A duty officer of the Kharadar police station said that six unidentified men riding on two motorcycles came near the Sufi Hotel in the Lea Market area.

The victims were also seated on each motorcycle between the motorbike rider and the pillion rider.After stopping near the Sufi Hotel, they dislodged the two victims and fired gunshots at them.

The suspects fled from the scene after carrying out the firing.

The police said that Sohail, son of Jalil Baloch, died of the spot. He was a resident of Sangulane, they added.

The other victim Saeed, son of Saleh Mohammad, was wounded in the firing.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was admitted for treatment, the police said, adding that he was an auto-mechanic.

The victims were kidnapped by unidentified people on Tuesday night, the police said.

Saeed survived because

the gunmen might have thought that both the men had died in the firing, the police added.

An FIR (290/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Saeed was registered at the Kharadar police station.

The police said it seemed that they were kidnapped and shot on suspicion of being some sort of informers, though they clarified that they were not police informers.

The police officials believed that the incident was related to the gang warfare in Lyari.

Alleged peddler shot dead

A man was gunned down outside his house in Patel Para in the Jamshad Quarters area in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.

They said 40-year-old Barkat Ali was sitting near Chawla Apartments within the remit of the Jamshad Quarters police station during an outage when unidentified men riding on a motorcycle appeared and opened fire on him.

The suspects managed to escape from the scene.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

The police claimed that the deceased was a drug peddler and several cases had been registered against him at the Jamshad Quarters police station.

An FIR (211/2011) under Section 302 and 34 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s brother, Abdul Rasheed, was registered against unidentified suspects.

Youth gunned down

A young man was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Shah Faisal Colony on Wednesday night.

SHO of the Shah Faisal Colony police station Eric Jamil said that 22-year-old Zohaib Hasan was standing outside an embroidery shop where he worked in Shah Faisal Colony No.5 when unidentified gunmen shot him.

The victim suffered a single bullet wound in the left side of his chest and died on the spot.

His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

It was not clear if the suspects were on motorcycle or were on foot, the police officer added.

The victim was a resident of Sadaat Colony.
