Four killed over land dispute

TAXILA, July 12: Dispute over a piece of land on Tuesday claimed four people including two brothers and a minor killed injuring five others in village Dhoke Saidu in limits of Taxila police station.

Police sources said the family of Arif Mehmood had been running the dispute with his relative Mehmmod Akhter.

On Tuesday morning Arif Mehmood along with his brother Waris Mehmood and cousin Faizan equipped with axes and pistols attacked the house of Mehmmod Akhter killing Faiza Kanwal, 11 while injuring Mehmmod Akhter, Wajid Mehmood, Sajid Mehmood, Tahira Bibi and Hajira Bibi.

Seeing their relatives in pool of blood, the relatives of Mehmmod Akhter opened indiscriminate firing at the attackers killing Arif Mehmood along with his brother Waris Mehmood and cousin Faizan.

The injured and the dead were shifted to Tehsil headquarters hospital Taxila from where Mehmmod Akhter and Wajid Mehmood were shifted to district headquarters hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi due to their critical condition. — Correspondent

Man found dead

ISLAMABAD, July 12: A bullet-riddled body of a man was found in G-13 area on Tuesday, police said.

The incident came to light when some passersby spotted the body and informed the police who arrived on the spot and shifted the body to the hospital.

The victim was identified as Naimat Khan, 66, a resident of Pirwadhai. He had five bullet wounds in his chest.The victim’s son, Amir Shahzad, told the police that the family had no enmity with anyone. However, two unidentified persons came over to his house on a motorcycle on Monday evening and left with his father. He suspected that the motorcycle riders were behind the killing.

The police said Naimat Khan was considered an influential of his area and used to settle issues between rivals. Besides, he also had influence over the police and

approached them whenever action was required in certain cases.— Staff Reporter

Girl alleges assault

RAWALPINDI, July 12: A girl on Tuesday alleged that a young man she was having affair with detained and sexually molested her in a house near Soan by making her unconscious.

Police said the girl, a student in a local college, went missing nine days ago after she left home for her alma mater. Parents launched a door-to-door search but failed to find any clue to her until she was released by the abductor, police said.

The girl was brought to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital for medical examination on Tuesday evening.

In her statement, she said she was taken to the lone house in Soan where she was given “some medicines” making her unconscious. She said she was sexually molested by the young man. — Staff Reporter

Nato oil tanker torched

TAXILA, July 12: Militants attacked a Nato oil supply vehicle and set it on fire on Tuesday.According to official sources, the militants after torching the Afghanistan-bound oil tanker (TLE -098) disappeared in the outskirts of Hassanabdal area. No one was killed in the incident, according to official sources.

Police cordoned off the area after the incident and launched a search operation for the arrest of the perpetrators. Both the drivers and the conductors also fled from the scene.— Correspondent

Mastermind arrested

TAXILA, July 12: Wah Cantonment police on Tuesday arrested the mastermind and main accused of firing within mosques premises in New City area on July 7 in which three persons were injured.

Arshad Ahmed was arrested by police from his house.

Later he was presented before civil judge Arshad Mehmood who sent him jail on two weeks judicial remand.

One of the nominated accused Sajjad Ahmed was already in police custody on physical remand.

According to police, hunt for other nominated accused including Mohammad Sadeeq, Mohammad Zubair and three other unknown assailants was on. — Correspondent

Wife of policeman acquitted

TAXILA, July 12: The additional session judge Anwar Ahmed Khan on Tuesday acquitted wife of slain police official of murder and set her free.

Sub Inspector Ghulam Habib who was serving in VVIP Security section of Rawalpindi police was found dead with bullet injury in his room in his village Jallo in limits of Hassanabdal police station on October 17, 2010. Hassanabdal police booked his third wife Rehmat Perveen and arrested her on the charges of murder of her husband.

However, the statements of prosecution witnesses could not corroborate the prosecution story. — Correspondent

Entrepreneurship centre

ISLAMABAD, July 12: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has established an ‘Entrepreneurship Development Centre’ to provide services to the existing and prospective entrepreneurs and help them in building their capacity on entrepreneurial skills.

Set up in collaboration with the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the main purpose of EDC is to provide complete business set-up guidance and solutions to prospective entrepreneurs, especially youth and deprived economic class. Various training programmes for skill development and capacity building in different areas would also be organized at EDC. — Our Reporter
