LAHORE, July 11: A sub-inspector and another man were shot dead in two separate incidents here on Monday.

Batapur police said two unidentified motorcyclists intercepted the car of Sub-Inspector Tariq Mahmood Bajwa of Jallo village and opened fire on car riders. Bajwa and his son Adil, a Punjab University student, sustained injuries. They were taken to Services Hospital where Bajwa died.

Bajwa's brother Ayyaz Mahmood, who was sitting at the rear of the car, escaped unhurt.

Tariq Bajwa, who was posted at Farooqabad Saddar police station, was currently on a five-day leave. He was going to drop his brother, Ayyas, of Sialkot at Lorry Adda and his son to the Punjab University.

The police said the initial investigation revealed that Tariq Bajwa, who had two wives, contracted the second marriage after falling in love and had one child from her.

The Batapur SHO said the motive behind the attack could not be ascertained so far.

Shahdara Town police said three people gunned down 25-year-old Sheikh Farhan due to an old rivalry in Qazi Park.

Quoting witnesses, the police said suspects identified as Zulfikar alias Polio, Tariq alias Billa and Nazakat entered the house of Farhan and fled after shooting him.

The police shifted the body to Mayo Hospital's morgue.

The police said Farhan, who had completed his four-year jail term some time ago, was nominated in the murder of a member of the Zulfikar group. A case has been registered against the accused.
