SUKKUR, July 11: A man was found dead in his house on the old municipal committee road in Jacobabad on Monday. His neighbour believed he was killed by outlaws when he resisted their attempt to kidnap him.

Body of Pooran Mal, a quack by profession, was found by a woman who lived on the upper floor of the house. She had come to Pooran's house to give him breakfast when she saw the body and informed people.

The president of Hindu Punchayat, Babu Mahesh Kumar Lakhani, president of Small Traders Association Mir Ahmed Ali Brohi and a large number of people gathered at the place as police moved the body to Jacobabad civil hospital. It was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.

Mahesh Kumar told reporters that it appeared that the criminals had tried to kidnap Pooran who was in the house but met resistance and escaped after killing him.

He said police had not taken any action to find the killers. Therefore, the Hindu Panchayat would hold a demonstration and a sit-in outside the press club on Tuesday, carrying Pooran's body with them.

Jacobabad DPO Pervez Chandio visited the house and assured the community that the killers would be arrested.

Police have raided different places and taken seven suspects into custody but no case was registered till late in the evening.

Dr Dev, son of Pooran, has arrived from Karachi to attend the last rites of his father.
