Man kills sister

KOHAT, July 8: A man killed his sister by shooting her with pistol in Mian Khel bazaar here on Friday.

The man identified as Abid, resident of Muhallah Sikandar Khan Shaheed, shot his sister in the bazaar and managed to escape. The city police registered case against him and launched investigation. —Correspondent

Two car-lifters held

SWABI, July 8: Police on Friday arrested two car-lifters and recovered a vehicle from them.

Syed Maluk Shah, SHO Zaida police station, said the car-lifters, after snatching the Suzuki pick up No-9817-B, Mardan from its driver, Haroon Ahmad, from Marghuz area on May 16 had shot him dead. The arrested car-lifters were identified as Jan Zada of Malakand and Sobat Khan of Panjpir village of Swabi. However, Amjid and Asghar, their two accomplices, escaped the police raid.

Meanwhile, a labourer who was working in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate drowned in the Pehur High Level Canal while two of his colleagues were rescued by divers on Friday while bathing. The body of the drowned worker, identified as Faisal, was not yet found. —Correspondent

Flood protection walls

LANDI KOTAL, July 8: The political administration in Khyber Agency has completed various development projects which will help improve the living standards of the communities.

According to a press release the administration constructed and rehabilitated various flood protection walls to safeguard agricultural lands and houses in the area from future flooding.

These flood protection walls have been constructed and rehabilitated in Iqbal Kalay Sultan Khel, Landi Kotal and Lala China, Gumbat Ali Masjid and Iqbal Hussain Tar Khel Murad Dhand Mullagori areas of Jamrud.

It is worth mentioning all the schemes were carried out by local contractors in coordination with political administration with the active participation of the local population. —Correspondent

More provinces

ABBOTTABAD, July 8: Former federal minister and leader of Tehrik Soba Hazara Amanullah Khan Jadoon has demanded establishment of more provinces to improve on administrative delivery.

He was speaking at a reception organised at his residence for visiting journalists from Khanewal and other parts on Friday.

Mr Jadoon, who belongs to PML-Q, said the PPP-PML-Q coalition would be able to ease people’s miseries.

He said the PML-Q joined the PPP government only for the creation of a new province which was the demand of people of Hazara.

Meanwhile, Agha Shabbir advocate and Rashid Javed were elected as president and secretary of Hazara Tax Bar Association for the next term in the elections held on Friday.—Correspondent

Entrepreneurship exhibition

TIMERGARA, July 8: A two-day entrepreneurship exhibition was held in the department of management studies, University of Malakand, here on Friday, said a press release.

The students who have been offered course in entrepreneurship, exhibited different value added products. The purpose of the event was to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in students. Vice-chancellor Dr Mohammad Rasool Jan was the chief guest.

The organiser of the event, Mohammad Usman, briefed the participants about the efforts of the young entrepreneurs and the purpose of the event.

The vice-chancellor appreciated the efforts of the students and promised to establish an entrepreneurship incubator in the department of management studies to provide an appropriate forum for generating innovative business ideas. —Correspondent

Ending differences

SWABI, July 8: The provincial leadership of the ANP has adopted a traditional approach to resolve differences between two rival groups of the party, sources said on Friday.

“It is an old tradition of Pakhtuns to express Nannawatay (repentance over one’s fault) and sit together with the rivals to bury the hatchet. The same tradition was upheld by the ANP leadership to ask the two groups to end their rivalry under the code of Pakhtunwali,” said a key worker, who participated in a meeting held at the party’s headquarters, Bacha Khan Markaz, Peshawar. —Correspondent

Polo match

CHITRAL, July 8: Gilgit-B team beat Chitral-B team by five goals in the second day of Shandur Festival here on Friday played in the highest polo ground of the world.

Gilgit team scored eight goals during the specified time and were declared winner. In the second match, C team of Chitral beat Gilgit-C by 7 to 2 goals.

IG Frontier Corps was chief guest on the occasion and gave away prizes to the players. Paragliding and cultural show were also the activities of the second day of the festival.

The tourists evinced great interest in the cultural show in which the singers and dancers of both Chitral and Gilgit performed using the customary musical instruments. —Correspondent
