‘BISP scheme apolitical’

ISLAMABAD, July 3: Lashing out at the critics of the social security net, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja on Sunday said it was purely apolitical scheme initiated for the welfare of the poor without any discrimination.

She said that the PPP’s opponents had been trying in vain to target this welfare programme. “PML-N and especially its leader Nawaz Sharif have been pointing fingers at this programme to avenge defeat in the AJK elections. This shows their negative and anti-poor mentality”, Ms Farzana said while speaking at a press conference here at the BISP Secretariat on Sunday.

She said that Mian Nawaz Sharif dubbed the AJK people as “saleable commodity” adding it was a big insult for the AJK people.

“His remarks regarding BISP, ‘used to win over voters’ reflects his ignorance,” she said. “BISP is completely non-political scheme which is serving the poorest of the poor irrespective of caste, creed or political affiliations,” she claimed. — Staff Reporter
