PESHAWAR, June 30: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday ordered registration of FIR against a station house officer (SHO) and nine other police officers in the case of killing of four persons including a 10th grade student in a police encounter.
The judge, Fakhr Zaman Khan, issued the order after receiving the postmortem report of the killed persons, which revealed that the deceased were severely tortured.
The local police had claimed that the four persons had entered the house of Ms Parveen Akhter in broad daylight in Umeedabad area here for robbery and were killed in an encounter on May 30. The concerned officials were also rewarded by the police high-ups after the incident.
The court ordered that following registration of the FIR, the present case and the one registered by the police should be investigated by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of police and other law enforcing agencies.
The judge issued the order under section 22-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which empowers the court to exercise powers of justice of peace.
The Peshawar High Court Chief Juastice Ejaz Afzal Khan had taken suo motu notice of the issue after receiving an application from the petitioner, Attaullah Khan, father of the killed student, Osama Khan.
