KOHAT, June 29: The security forces on Wednesday defused three bombs planted by militants near the army camp office in Darra Adamkhel, officials said.

They said that the terrorists had planted three grenades on the roadside of the NHA Colony where army engaged in operation in Darra Adamkhel had a camp office. The heavily-guarded colony is located at a stone's throw from the northern portal of the strategic Friendship Tunnel, which had been targeted several times by the militants in the past.

The patrolling forces sighted the bombs and called the bomb disposal squad, which defused them. The army conducted search operation in the region after the incident, but no arrests could be made.

13 INJURED ON ROAD: At least 13 people, three of them women, were injured in a head-on collision between a car and passenger van near Gumbat town here on Wednesday.

Police said that the car was going from Kohat to Rawalpindi and the van from Rawalpindi to Karak when they met the accident near Gumbat due to speeding.

All the injured were taken to the KDA divisional headquarter hospital.

The Gumbat police arrested drivers of both the vehicles and have launched investigations.

CLEANLINESS: Kohat Commissioner Sahibzada Muhammad Anees has directed the cantonment and tehsil administrations to devise a comprehensive plan for the cleanliness of the city.

Chairing a meeting here on Wednesday, Mr Anees asked the officials concerned to prepare plans for cleanliness and removal of encroachments.

DCO Shahidullah Khan, officials of the cantonment board, tehsil municipal administration and Kohat Development Authority attended the meeting.

The commissioner asked the TMO, Mohammad Shoaib, to remove encroachments from Martyrs Square to Hangu Square, Peshawar road to cantonment, DCO office to Togh Payan and on Indus Highway bypass and also level the roadsides.
