KARACHI, June 27: A youth was found dead and his companion wounded in a car in a locality near the main University Road on Monday morning, police said.

A duty officer at the Aziz Bhatti police station said that Ali Nawaz, son of Ali Akbar was found dead and Dhamo, son of Kamo, wounded in a car which they had acquired from a relative living in the Korangi Industrial area. Both the victims had sustained gunshot wounds, he added.

According to the police, the victims were residents of Badin and had come to the city to buy a car from the New Karachi’s Sunday car bazaar. They possessed Rs10,000 meant for paying the token money, they said.

The police said that the youths were kidnapped while they were returning from the bazaar.

A case against unknown killers was registered at the Aziz Bhatti police station.

Seminary teacher dies

A religious teacher was found shot dead at the entrance of a seminary in the SITE area on Monday.

Police said that Maulana Sajid Ali Siddiqui was employed by the Jamia Binoria seminary to impart religious education to students but his services were terminated about a year back. The teacher was a resident of Orangi Town and Pesh Imam at a mosque located at Nishan-i-Haider Chowk, they said.

According to the police, Maulana Siddiqui came to the seminary and held a meeting with the seminary management for his reinstatement.

However, he failed to convince the management and out of frustration he shot himself in the head while coming out of the seminary.

Police said that Maulana died on the spot and his body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Activist shot dead

An activist of the Ahal-i- Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was shot dead by unknown assailants in New Karachi late Sunday night, police said.

They said that the victim, Kashif, was targeted by armed men riding a motorcycle, while he was passing through Bilal Colony on is bike.

Police said that the victim suffered gunshot wound in the head and chest and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. His family members took away the body without any legal formalities, they added.

The victim was a resident of Sector 5-A, New Karachi, police said.

Land dispute claims life

A young man was killed at Sohrab Goth on Monday.

Police said that Farzand Ali, 30, son of Haider Ali, was on his way on his motorcycle bearing registration number KAO-3670 when armed men also riding a motorcycle opened fire at him in Ayub Goth.

Police said that the victim suffered two bullet wounds in the head and died on the spot.

They said that victim had a disputed with someone over a piece of land in Aligarh Society, Sohrab Goth and his murder seemed to be linked with the dispute.

Young man killed

A young man was shot by unknown assailants in Korangi, police said.

A duty officer at the Korangi Industrial Area said that a lady doctor noticed an injured man seeking help from passersby near the KIA causeway. She took him to a hospital in an auto-rickshaw and on the way, the man told her that he was shot by unknown persons, the police officer said.

The police later identified the man as Sajjad Khan, 30, and said he was shot in the back and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

They said the man had a criminal background and it seemed that he might have tried to commit a robbery and been shot while fleeing the scene.

His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination.

FIA man kills ‘bandit’

An FIA officer shot dead an alleged bandit who, he claimed, intended to rob him and his family on Dalmia Road.

Police quoted the FIA officer, Mohammad Ali Wassan, as claiming that he was passing through the road along with his relatives in his car, which was intercepted by some armed suspects.

The officer said that he shot one of the suspects with his official weapon. His two companions managed to escape, the officer told police.

The police identified the dead suspect as Faisal, and said that two pedestrians, Munir Ahmed and Ali, were wounded in the firing and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
