2 killed in accident

TAXILA, June 27: Two passengers were killed and 12 others were injured, ten among them were female, in an accident on Hazara road in jurisdiction of Hassanabdal police station on Monday.

Police and hospital sources said that a Rawalpindi-bound passenger van (RIS- 4821) coming from Haripur rammed into a roadside parked truck (KT- 2407). As a result of which two passengers, Mohammad Akram and Kala Khan, died on the spot while 12 passengers Mohammad Riaz, Ansar Bibi, Tasneem Bibi, Ali Bhadur, Jameela Bibi, Tazeem Bibi, Fazeela Taj, Shahnaz Bibi, Perveen Bibi, Tasleem Ramzan, Aliya Bibi and Khalida Taj were injured. — Correspondent

Man held for killing two

CHAKWAL, June 27: A father was arrested along with his two sons on the charges of killing his daughter and son-in-law for honour, District Police Officer Syed Ali Mohsin told reporters on Monday.

He said Amina Bibi, a resident of Dhoke Parhal of tehsil Talagang, got married with Mohammad Asim, a soldier in Pakistan Army.

On the night of June 18, Lal Khan, the father of Amina, stormed the house of his daughter along with his two sons Mohammad Khan and Mohammad Imran. The three men opened fire on the couple killing Mohammad Asim on the spot while injuring Amina seriously. Amina was also expired on June 21 at a hospital in Rawalpindi. — Correspondent

Inquiry into parks renovation

RAWALPINDI, June 27: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered inquiry into “poor renovation” of parks in Murree and also suspended a police officer for not registering case against the contractor.

An official statement on Monday said the chief minister during his visit to Murree last Friday was dissatisfied with the renovation and improvement work in Racecourse Centre, Bagh-e-Shaheedan and PIA Park. The chief minister ordered to suspend SHO Murree for failing to register FIR against the contractor of PIA Park and not arresting him for using “third grade construction material”. — Our Reporter

Six arrested

ISLAMABAD, June 27: Police on Monday arrested six persons from different areas of the city and recovered narcotics and illegal weapons from them.

A spokesman for the police said on Monday that the Tarnol police on a tip-off intercepted two persons and during their search hashish weighing 1.2 kg was recovered from them. The Koral police also recovered 140grams of heroin and 390grams of hashish from two persons. The Shahzad Town and Sabzi Mandi police recovered a Kalashnikov and a 30-bore pistol from two persons. — Staff Reporter

Four injured

ATTOCK, June 27:  Four persons were seriously injured in two separate incidents in the district.

Police said on Monday that Mohammad Hussain reported to Rangu Police station that he was on his way to Daman village on his bike on Sunday evening when an armed man opened fire on him injuring him seriously.

Three persons were seriously injured by their rivals over a family dispute at Surg village of Attock Saddar Police station. Police said that two brothers Ali Khan and Ameer Khan were busy in their agriculture field along with a cousin Gull Mohammad on Sunday evening, when their relatives Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Arif allegedly attacked  them with weapons injuring seriously injuries. They were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Attock. — Correspondent

Rent recovery drive

ATTOCK, June 27: The Cantonment Board Kamra (CBK) has launched a drive to recover outstanding rents from different business centres before the end of the current financial year, it has been learnt.In this connection, a team of the board sealed a bakery near Qutba Chowk after it failed to clear the outstanding rents of three shops amounting to about Rs50,000 despite repeated reminders.

The CBK warned other shopkeepers to pay their outstanding rents or face similar action.

When contacted, executive officer Kamra Cantonment Omar Farooq Ali Malik said no pressure would be tolerated regarding the ongoing recovery and anti-encroachment drive. He said there were a few tenants who were trying to create problems for the administration. — Correspondent

Trader looted

CHAKWAL, June 27: The traders of Miyani village staged a protest rally here on Monday demanding immediate arrest of the robbers who looted a trader on Monday morning.

Trader Naseer Ahmed, who runs a shop in Miyani village, was going to his village Ransiyal along with his friend on motorbike carrying Rs520,000 in cash.

He was stopped by three armed bandits and snatched the amount along with cellphones. The robbers also tortured them.

The traders of Miyani village staged a rally and blocked Chakwal-Sargodha Road for more than two hours. They burnt tyres and shouted slogans. — Correspondent

Undertrial prisoners set free

RAWALPINDI, June 27: District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmed Kajana set eight undertrial prisoners (UTPs) on a visit to Adiala Jail on Monday.

An official statement said the six UTPs were released after the judge disposed of their cases. Two others awaiting trial for petty crime were set free on personal surety.

Judge Kanjana visited the barracks, kitchen and the hospital of the jail. He also provided relief to some individual prisoners after listening to their problems. Jail Superintendent Mohsin Rafique Chaudhry and other senior officials were present during the judge’s visit. — A Reporter
