Man kills wife

MARDAN, June 27: A man allegedly gunned down his wife in the name of honour in the limits of Rustam police station on Monday, eyewitnesses said.

They said the accused Abdul Qadir shot dead his wife Fozia after accusing her of having illicit relations with someone. They said the victim was missing for last six days from her home and when she returned, her husband shot her dead after exchanging hot words with her.

Police lodged FIR against Abdul Qadir on the complaint of his father Ghulam Qadir who did not mention the cause of the killing in the report. The police were trying to arrest the killer who had made his escape good after killing his wife.—Correspondent

Mass mobilisation drive

PESHAWAR, June 27: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf will launch from next moth a mass mobilisation campaign across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against loadshedding, price hike.

This was announced by PTI Peshawar organiser, Zafarullah Khattak, at a press conference at Peshawar press club on Monday. He said it was responsibility of every patriotic citizen to express concern over the excessive and unscheduled power suspensions which had made lives of the people miserable. Mohammad Zaman Awan, PML-N organiser for PF-8, Peshawar, along with dozens of other supporters announced to quit their party and joined the PTI.

Mr Zaman said he was serving PML-N since 1993 but was forced to quit it because of the party’s ‘wrong polices’.—Bureau Report

Rs70m for college

PESHAWAR, June 27: The provincial government has released Rs70 million for construction of the building of the boys college of the University of Peshawar.

Of the total amount Rs20 million has been donated from the personal fund of the chief minister while Rs50 million given by Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel.

Director planning and development Muhammad Haroon said the total estimated cost mentioned in the PC-I of the project was around Rs90 million, adding, Rs20 million would be contributed by the University of Peshawar, according to a press release issued on Monday. Mr Haroon said, the total covered area of the college would be around four kanals with 24 classrooms, eight laboratories, a library and examination hall.—Bureau Report

Education department

MANSEHRA, June 27: MPA Wajeeuzaman Khan has urged the government to make the education department an autonomous body.

“If the government wants to improve the standard of the public sector schools and cope with the challenges, it should make the education department an autonomous body as is done in the developed countries,” said Mr Khan while speaking at the parent’s day function of government high school in Oghi on Monday.

The executive district officer, education, Umer Khan also spoke on the occasion. Mr Wajeeuzaman lauded performance of the teachers and students of the school for showing 100 per cent results in the matriculation results.

He said political interference had destroyed the educational system and even the poor preferred to send their children to private schools.—Correspondent

Scholarships

SWABI, June 27: Jehangir Bashar, Rector of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, has lauded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision to increase scholarships from 10 to 20 for the talented deserving students to receive world-class education in the institute.

Briefing media men here on Monday he said the decision would provide a golden opportunity to the needy students to acquire quality education. He said the announcement of 100 per cent increase in scholarships was made by the Governor Barrister Masood Kausar in his address to the 15th convocation of the GIK Institute on June 2. Later, the chief minister approved the scholarships.—Correspondent

Rain in Hazara

MANSEHRA, June 27: Heavy downpour in upper parts of the Hazara on Monday turned the hot weather pleasant.

Balakot, Mansehra, Battagram and other parts received heavy rain which continued till late in the day. The prolonged dry spell had turned the weather hot and the people were suffering due to prolonged power outages and were praying for rains.

Meanwhile, the district administration Mansehra is still without any contingency plan to cope with any untoward situation arising out of the monsoon rains.—Correspondent

Transferred

PESHAWAR, June 27: In a reshuffle, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Monday replaced the political agents of five tribal agencies directing them to report to the establishment department.

According to an order, the political agent of South Waziristan Agency, Atifur Rehman, was replaced by DCO, Malakand region, Mohammad Jawed Marwat.

The political agent of Bajaur Agency, Zakir Hussain, was replaced by DCO Lower Dir, Islamzaib Khan, whereas political agent of Khyber Agency, Shafirullah Khan was replaced by Mutahir Zaib Khan, who was serving as additional secretary (administration) at the Fata Secretariat.

Political agent, Kurrum, Syed Musadiq Shah, was replaced by provincial finance controller, Shahab Ali Shah. The political agent, Orakzai, Riaz Khan Mehsud, was replaced by the director general of emergency services, Khushal Khan.—Bureau Report

Teachers’ training

PESHAWAR, June 27: A delegation of Unicef and Children Global Network called on the Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak here on Monday and offered interactive teachers training to teachers of 140 schools and donation of computers to 44 high schools in Buner district.

The delegation briefed the minister about the proposed interactive teaching methodology training to be given to teachers and heads of the schools. — APP
