LAHORE, June 21: A newly-married couple was found slain at a rented house in Sarshar Town of Hanjarwal on Tuesday.

The Hanjarwal police suspected the couple had paid the price for contracting love marriage.

Neighbours alerted the police about the incident when the couple who was found stabbed in one of the rooms.

Ghulam Akbar Awan of Talagang, Chakwal told the police his son Nadeem Akbar, 25, arrived at the rented quarter along with his wife, Nagina Malik, 22, a night before the killings.

He suspected that Nagina's father Malik Khan and his son had committed the offence as they were not happy about the marriage despite reconciliation efforts.

He also told the police that Nadeem and Nagina contracted court marriage at Talagang eight months ago. Both sides reconciled with each other after having tense relations for at least seven months as the woman's brothers wanted to kill the couple.

Nadeem, who worked in Lahore, shifted to the quarter of Haji Nawaz which was arranged by the girl's family after the alleged reconciliation.

Preliminary police investigation showed that the couple arrived in Lahore along with luggage on Monday night. They were asleep at the time of the incident. The police registered a case against Malik, his son and two unidentified accomplices and shifted the bodies for autopsies.
