PESHAWAR, June 20: An accountability court here on Monday granted 13-day custody of Overseas Employment Promotional Liaison (OEPL) managing director Naseem Malik to the local chapter of National Accountability Bureau in a swindling case.

The OEPL head was arrested from Peshawar Airport on Sunday night after being extradited from the UAE through Interpol. A Nab spokesman said on Monday that the accused was involved in cheating a large number of students to lure them for studies aboard. The NAB on receipt of complaints initiated a case against him and his associates.

However, accused Naseem Malik never joined the investigation and absconded to UAE. On completion of investigation, NAB filed a reference before the Accountability Court Peshawar in February, 2010 against the accused and co-accused Ms Tasawar Saba for embezzling Rs5.37 million.

After willful absence, he was declared a proclaimed offender. Subsequently, perpetual warrants of arrest of the accused were issued by the court.

The concerned officials of NAB had requested Interpol for the arrest of the accused and accordingly Interpol issued the red warrants. Finally Interpol Abu Dhabi, UAE located him and extradited him to Pakistan. — Bureau Report
