NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, June 20: Residents of the village of Mako Depar held a demonstration in Moro on Monday against police for refusing to register an FIR against a kidnapper caught by them and handed over to police.

Villagers Ghulam Murtaza, Mohammad Hayat and Ali Ahmed told reporters that on Saturday night, four dacoits in a car bearing a red and blue number plate, the colour scheme used by police, came to the house of Ghulam Murtaza Depar and opened fire. Villagers returned the fire and caught one of the attackers.

They said that they had informed Moro police who took the captured armed man and the car, but the SHO of Moro was not registering FIR against him.

Ghulam Murtaza claimed that the arrested dacoit had kidnapped him eight months ago and released him after receiving Rs500,000 ransom.

Later, Mohammad Hayat submitted an application in the court of first judicial magistrate of Moro, Sohail Ahmed Mashori, who issued a notice to the SHO to explain position.

When contacted, SHO Adam Abro was not available.

Head Munshi Aijaz Khoso confirmed that the man and the car were in police custody. He said that the man had disclosed his name as Aslam Dahri and claimed that he was a driver and run a taxi owned by the SHO of Hala police station.
