KARACHI, June 16: Three young men were found shot dead in Lyari on Thursday, police said.

A young man was found dead on Shah Waliullah Road with multiple bullet wounds on his body.

His body was taken to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi where his family identified him.

“The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Imran Azam,” said an official at the Kalri police station.

“He was a resident of Baloch Muhallah in Orangi Town and worked as a minibus conductor. We believe that he was kidnapped, tortured and his body was dumped here. However, no clue has as yet been found to determine the people and motive behind the killing.”

In another incident, a youngster was gunned down near Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Road within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

The area police said that 30-year-old Salman Dada was once associated with Ghaffar Zikri, the alleged leader of one of the several criminal gangs operating in the area.

“He had left the area some seven years ago and returned only four months ago. He was not seen interacting with any of the gangs these days but the killing seems to be linked to his past record,” said a Baghdadi police station officer.

In the third incident of killing, a gunny bag with a youngster’s body was found near Ghaans Mandi in the morning.

An official at the Napier police station said that the victim remained unidentified and had apparently died from severe torture.

“There were multiple wounds on the head and back of the victim that suggest that a blunt object was used to torture him,” he said, adding that the police had shifted the body to the Edhi morgue after medico-legal formalities at the CHK for want of identification.

In incidents of violence in other parts of the city, a real estate dealer in North Nazimabad was gunned down while he was driving home.

An official at the Shahrah-i-Noorjehan police station said that 37-year-old Muhammad Pervez was attacked near Qalandria Chowk.

“Armed riders intercepted him and fled after firing at him. The victim was a resident of Block S in North Nazimabad and was working as a real estate dealer these days, though he had been associated with the Pakistan People’s Party in the past,” said the official.

A young man was also found shot dead in a Malir area.

The Saudabad police said that the body was found near a government school close to the Malir Kala Board bus stop.

“The victim appeared to be in his late 20s and was wearing a blue T-shirt and white trousers,” said a Saudabad police official.

“The victim remained unidentified, though we have registered a case (FIR 153/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified suspects,” the police officer said.
