KHAIRPUR, June 15: Violence against women seems to be an integral part of the culture of rural Sindh. Not a single day passes without report of a so-called honour killing and other excesses against women from this region.

Wednesday also proved a bad day for women as reports of killing of two women, a gang-rape and recovery of bullet-riddled body of a young girl were received from different parts of the province.

Body of another young girl was found from a sand mound near Akri- Chowdagi link road in the Faiz Ganj area of Khairpur district on Wednesday.

The area people spotted some dogs digging the sand mound and trying to pull out a body and immediately informed police.

The deceased girl is between 15-16 years and her face was bullet-riddled. She had many bullet wounds on the body hence the colour of her clothes could not be identified due to blood stains.

Hands and feet of the dead girl were tied with a white cloth which is supposed to be her head-scarf. Area people say the body was one day old. Faiz Ganj police told journalists that post-mortem of the body has been conducted.

Police said that the body of a woman found on Tuesday remained unclaimed and was buried in a graveyard near Pakka Chang.

Umerkot: A woman was shot dead by her cousin in Kunri.

According to police, Amna Khaskheli was shot dead by her cousin Zulfiqar Khaskheli. He fired three bullets at her legs and shoulder. She was rushed to taluka hospital Kunri, but died before getting any medical assistance.

Police registered a case against Zulfiqar on the complaint of Mohammad Rahim, another cousin of deceased. The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.

No arrest was made till late evening.

Another woman was killed on pretext of karo-kari in Ghar Pahnja near village Shahpur Mahar in the Khanpur Mahar area of District Ghotki.

Khamiso Mahar had been suspecting his wife Husna, 22, of having illicit relations with someone of the area.

In early hours of Wednesday when Husna was sleeping in her house, Khamiso opened fire and killed her. Police shifted the body to Civil Hospital Ghotki for post-mortem after which it was handed over to the relatives.

On the report of Samano Mahar, Khanpur Mahar police have lodged an FIR against Khamiso Mahar.

Badin: A case of gage-rape was registered at Nindo Police station but police have failed to arrest the accused.

According to the FIR, two masked men kidnapped a maid when she left home to clean utensils at a nearby water pond. The accused — Ghulam Hussain and Hashim Ghangro — forcibly took her to a nearby Autaq (guest house) and criminally assaulted her. They also seriously injured her when the victim tried resist the offenders.

After two hours, the accused left the victim unconsciousness outside her house at night, according to content of the FIR.

The parents of the girl have demanded of higher authorities to award exemplary punishments to the accused.
