PESHAWAR, June 15: An accountability court here on Wednesday indicted a former district officer of Frontier Constabulary (FC) in an illegal appointments case.

The accused, Mohammad Shoaib, pleaded not guilty to the charge and decided to stand trial. The court presided over by Afsar Khan fixed June 20 for the next hearing.

The court had framed charges on Feb 7 against the other three accused -- Malik Naveed, PSO-I Ghaniur Rehman Wazir and ATO Hamid Hassan. As Mohammad Shoaib was out of the country, he could not be arraigned in the case.

Earlier, the court had turned down an application filed by Mr Shoaib and declared him a proclaimed offender. Through the said application the accused had requested the court that he may be exempted from personal appearance as he had been working in a UN mission abroad.

NAB has charged Malik Naveed of carrying out illegal recruitment in the FC in connivance with the other three accused persons when he was its commandant. — Bureau Report
