Man ‘commits’ suicide

HARIPUR, June 12: A man allegedly committed suicide over unknown reasons in the limits of city police station here on Sunday. However, his family suspected that he was murdered and registered FIR against unknown persons.

Zahoor Elahi of village Darwesh, told police his younger brother, Mohammad Liaqat, who was working at the shop of Amraiz Khan of the same village, was found dead at his workplace.

His co-workers and employer said Liaqat killed himself by shoot at his temple without any reason. —Correspondent

Woman dies

CHITRAL, June 12: A woman died and her two sons and a daughter fell unconscious after consuming a poisonous syrup in Werkup Torkhow area of upper Chitral the other day.

Sources in the Aga Khan Hospital Booni told Dawn the condition of Mehria, 5, and Hazratullah, 16, and Rahimullah, 29, was critical.

They reportedly consumed syrup after putting an insecticide in it, which they thought was syrup powder.

Meanwhile, Chitral city and its adjacent villages received hailstorm the other day covering the roads with white sheet.

The hailstorm heavily damaged standing crops of wheat and fruit orchards of apple, apricot and peach. —Correspondent

Matric result

KOHAT, June 12: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat division, will declare the result of the matriculation examination on the evening of June 15 at a press conference.

Names of top position holders will be announced in the presence of their parents. The BISE has advised the candidates to collect their detail mark-sheets from their respective institutions.

Meanwhile, a young married student who died in a suicide blast in Peshawar was buried in Nastrat Khel on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Safiullah, married two months back, was doing BSc at the University of Peshawar. He was the youngest among eight brothers and sisters. —Correspondent

Projects inaugurated

KOHAT, June 12: ANP MNA Khursheed Begum on Sunday laid the foundation stones of Badshah Khan and Pir Shehanshah squares to be constructed on the Hangu road.

Khursheed Begum also addressed a public meeting at Saad Shaheed Park attended by leaders and party workers.

The Badshah Khan and Pir Shehanshah chowks would be reconstructed at Rs3 million each.

The MPA also visited the under-construction building of Kohat press club and the new library in Saad Shaheed Park and asked the contractors to speed up the work.

She took notice of the use of substandard material in the road in front of the Rescue 15 offices. —Correspondent

Cricket tournament

LAKKI MARWAT, June 12: Afghan club Tajbikhel defeated Sra Lamba (red flame) club Karkani Tajbikhel by 88 runs in the first Khushal tournament held in FR Lakki the other day.

The FR Lakki organised the tournament with the support of Fata Secretariat Programme (FSP) to provide the tribal youths with recreational activities.

After winning the toss Afghan club decided to bat first and made 113 runs in ten overs.

The rival team’s batsmen were bowled out for just 25 runs playing only five overs.

Similarly, Aryana club Wargara defeated Star club Ghazakhel by four runs and Tabedar club Shadikhel defeated Shaheen club by three wickets. —Correspondent

Civil disobedience

ABBOTTABAD, June 12: Baba Haider Zaman, chairman Tehrik-i-Soba Hazara, has warned that if the government doesn’t pay heed to demands for Hazara province the people will be left with no option but to launch a civil disobedience.

This he said while addressing a press conference at the press club here on Sunday. Mr Zaman said the rulers’ mum over rampant injustice, lawlessness and unemployment was forcing people to come on roads.

Haider Zaman asked the government to come out of the US pressure.

He condemned the killing of an innocent youth by Rangers’ personnel in Karachi and foreigners by the FC men in Quetta.

Baba also asked the KESC management to reinstate the sacked employees. —Correspondent
