Two boys drown

ISLAMABAD, June 9: Two teenaged boys were drowned in a village pond in Pind Dayan on Thursday.

As per details, Mohammad Hamza, 14, and Mohammad Bilawal, 14, along with their relatives came to the village on their grandfather’s death anniversary. After the ceremony, the two cousins left for the pond constructed by the villagers to meet the water requirements.

As they were enjoying swimming in deep water but they could not maintain breath and drowned. Some passersby spotted them and immediately informed the villagers who rushed to the spot and fished the unconscious boys out. They shifted them to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. Later, the bodies were removed to Pims for legal process.—Staff Reporter

Two patwaris sacked

RAWALPINDI, June 9: Two patwaris in Rawalpindi and Taxila were on Thursday were axed due to their involvement in malpractices.

The patwaris had been warned by DCO Saqib Zafar to ensure their presence in their offices instead of keeping outsiders in their places, as complaints had been piling up against them for allegedly receiving bribe through their aides.

Assistant Commissioner Taxila Arif during a raid on a patwari office found him absent and another private person dealing with the visitors and receiving bribe in some land transfer cases.

As a result, the Patwari, Mohammad Fayyaz, was sacked. Besides, another patwari, Shahid, in Rawalpidni city was also sent home on the charges of malpractice and dereliction of duty.

The action against the junior revenue staff was taken after the anti-corruption department and the online complaint centre received complaints against them and some police officials.—Our Reporter

Imposter given to police

ISLAMABAD, June 9: An alleged imposter arrested by Bhara Kahu police with the letterheads of Pakistan Army, Foreign Office and Senate, was remanded on Thursday in police custody for three days.

The Bhara Kahu police produced the accused – Mukhdoom Hussain – in the court of magistrate who sent him in police custody on three days physical remand.

On Wednesday, the police raided a hotel at Murree Road and arrested Mukhdoom Hussain, a resident of Sihala, when he was finalising a deal with two job seekers.

During search, the police recovered six letterheads of Pakistan Army, Foreign Office and Senate. During interrogation, he disclosed that he got the letterheads printed by a private press located in Aabpara. The letterheads were used to defraud people by offering them job in the government institutions, he added.

He further told investigators that he was about to extract Rs102,000 from two people of Murree against the jobs in Foreign Office and Finance Division.

The police had registered a case against him on charges of impersonation and fraud.—Staff Reporter

Man killed over property

ISLAMABAD, June 9: A villager was gunned down allegedly by his former business partner over a property dispute in the capital’s rural area early Thursday, police said.

Aftab Khan, 40, a native of village Chirah, in the limits of Nilor police station, came to a gathering of poets during a marriage ceremony in the village at around 3:30am where he exchanged hot words with his former partner, Waris Sarwar.

This led to a scuffle during which Waris shot him and escaped. The injured was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police said Aftab and Waris operated a property consultancy office in Chirah. However, they developed a dispute over the ownership of the shop in which the consultancy office was set up.—Staff Reporter

Parents oppose summer camps

ATTOCK, June 9: With heat wave persisting, parents have asked the government to close down summer camps at private schools or reduce their timings.

Parents said the children attending summer camps in various private schools in the district were suffering pains and fever.

Classes during the summer camps start at 7am and end by noon. A severe heat has gripped most parts of the district for the last few days.

As most of the private schools lack sufficient cooling arrangements, students attend classes amid extremely hot conditions. The situation becomes unbearable during power outages as most of the private schools are without power generators.

On the other hand, the administrations of private schools have made summer camps compulsory. According to parents, students not attending summer camps have to pay heavy fines.

Parents have asked the government to ban the summer camps at the schools and colleges in the prevailing hot weather or reduce their timing to two hours instead of five hours. —Correspondent

Body recovered TAXILA, June 9: The mutilated body of a man was found from a nullah near a vegetable market in the jurisdiction of Taxila police Thursday. A passerby spotted the body and informed the police who shifted it to the THQ hospital for autopsy.

According to police, the deceased seemed to be in his 40s, Later, the body was handed over to TMA for burial. —Correspondent

Drug pushers nabbed

CHAKWAL, June 9: Two notorious drug peddlers were arrested by Talagang Saddar police on Thursday. SHO Syed Azhar Hassan told Dawn that he along with his team conducted a special raid to arrest the drug peddlers identified as Rafique alias Pappu and Ghulam Rabani. Police also recovered 2kg hashish from their possession. —A Correspondent

Medical store looted

TAXILA, June 9: A medical store was looted on gunpoint by two persons during loadshedding on Wednesday night in a market at Faisal Shaheed Road here.

Police said the bandits posing as customers entered the pharmacy around 9pm and made the shopkeeper hostage and fled with the cash and mobile phones. —Correspondent

Judges transferred

CHAKWAL, June 9: Five civil judges serving in Chakwal district were transferred by the Lahore High Court (LHC), sources said on Thursday.

Civil Judge Rao Mobashar Hussain was transferred to Faisalabad while Malik Abdul Satar Kalu was posted in Pind Dadan Khan.

Shafqat Shahbaz and Shakeel Ahmad were transferred to Gujranwala while Rai Mohammad Khan was transferred to Rawalpindi. —A Correspondent
