Feud claims 3 lives

HARIPUR, June 8: Three people including a woman were gunned down and six others sustained injuries when two rival groups exchanged fire over a family dispute in the limits of Sadar police station here on Wednesday.

Police quoted one of the injured, Abdul Majeed, as saying that his daughter Asma and her husband Mohammad Naseer, an army man, had strained relations. On Wednesday morning, Naseer subjected Asma to severe torture.

Majeed said that on learning about the dispute, I reached there and scolded Naseer but he got angry and he and his two brothers namely Safeer and Shabeer opened fire killing Asma and her brother Mohammad Naeem on the spot while her two brothers and another relative were among the injured.

The injured and bodies were shifted to the DHQ Hospital where Mohammad Asad succumbed to injuries. —Correspondent

FC men injured on road

KOHAT, June 8: Six men of Frontier Corps were injured in a road accident on Indus Highway in Chambai area on Wednesday. The pick-up was bringing the FC men to Kohat from Bannu when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. As a result six FC officials sustained serious injuries.

The Jarma police shifted all the injured to the KDA divisional hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger. —Correspondent

PESHAWAR, June 8: The Awami National Party has announced to mourn killing of its Bannu district president Mohammad Israel Khan Wazir.

In a statement issued from Bacha Khan Markaz here on Wednesday, he said the killing of its ANP Bannu district president along with two guards, Raza Khan and Sajid Khan, was a matter of immense shock for the workers and leaders of the party and it had been decided to mourn his death for three days.

A condolence reference will also be held at 11am at the Bacha Khan Markaz on Friday, said the statement. —Bureau Report

Two killed in Karak

KARAK, June 8: Two persons were killed and two other seriously injured in separate incidents here on Wednesday. Police said that a bullet-riddled body of a teenaged boy was found in Warana Sheni Banda area. Later, the body was handed over to the relatives after being identified as Waqarullah. The victim’s brother, Waqar, registered the FIR at Latamber police station against unknown accused.

In the second incident, a container fell into a ravine in Speena Banda on Indus Highway after brake failure and the driver of the container, Rabbani, died on the spot while his two companions, Raza and Saoud, were seriously injured. They were shifted to Peshawar in precarious condition. —Correspondent

PESHAWAR, June 8: The father of an 8-year-old girl suffering from thalassaemia has sought the help of philanthropists for her treatment as she needed to be operated upon because of a damaged spleen.

Syed Naushad hailing from Pir Baba area of Buner district told reporters here on Wednesday that he worked as a daily-wager and was the only bread-earner of his five-member family.

He said that one of his sons had already died after prolonged illness. He added that he urgently needed Rs25,000 for the operation as he was unable to afford the expenditure. Teenager goes missing

HARIPUR, June 8: A teenager went missing from his home in the jurisdiction of Ghazi police station here on Wednesday.

Qari Mohammad Arshad, a prayer leader cum school teacher of Sobra City, Tarbela Dam, lodged a written complaint with the Ghazi police station saying that his son Hafiz Ahmed Saeed, 17, 2nd year student at the Wapda Degree College, went missing two days back.

He accused his friend Iftikhar, who allegedly had secret relations with some banned outfit, of taking away his son after tempting him to becom a jihadi. The Ghazi police have registered a case and started investigation. —Correspondent

‘Out-of-course’ paper

MARDAN, June 8: The students of Mardan Commerce College No.1 and 2 have accused the Abdul Wali Khan University of setting an “out-of-course” paper of accounting and feared that 80 to 90 per cent students might fail the exam.

The BCom students told Dawn that all the questions were out of the syllabus. They claimed that most of the students could not even understand the questions.

They lamented that one of their college lecturers visited their examination hall to explain the question paper but the superintendent did not allow him to do so.

They demanded of the authorities concerned to take an appropriate action because their future was at stake.

When contacted, controller of examination of Abdul Wali Khan University Pir Abdul Jabbar rejected the allegation and said that the paper was according to the syllabus. —Correspondent
