ISLAMABAD: The members of National Assembly across the board condemned the killing of a young man by Rangers personnel in Karachi and urged Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Thursday to give exemplary punishment to the accused.

The members were of the view that the barbaric act was a matter of shame for the country, the parliament, public representatives and law enforcing institutions.

Most of the members were in favour of punishing the Rangers personnel.

Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz leader Khwaja Saad Rafique demanded the government to register a case against officials of Rangers under terrorism act for brutally killing the young man.

He also requested Prime Minister Gilani to take note of the incident and said the officials involved should be tried in the anti-terrorist court and the case should be decided in 30 days.

He condemned the statement of Interior Minister Rehman Malik after the incident and said the minister gave undue favour to the Rangers personnel, adding that Malik should apologise for his statement.

Saad Rafique was of the view that DG Rangers Sindh should resign over the incident and the control of Sindh Rangers must be given to Karachi police.

He said Rangers officials should properly be trained and educated before being deployed to the big city.

Senior PML-N leader Makhdom Javed Hashmi strongly condemned the incident and said the life and property of each and every Pakistani was important and respectable.

He said the government should show sensitivity over the issue and give strict punishment to the accused.

He warned that the sanctity of the country's institutions could be sabotaged if the life of a Pakistani could not be honoured and respected.

Condemning the incident, PML-Q leader Sheikh Waqas Akram said it was a second recent brutal act by a law enforcing agency after the Kharotabad incident.

He said the country was already passing through a challenging situation and such acts by irresponsible personnel of law enforcing agencies were causing embarrassment for the nation.

He expressed satisfaction that Prime Minister Gilani himself took the notice of the matter, however, he urged that the culprits should be punished in public.

MNA Haider Abbas Rizvi expressed satisfaction that the parliament had condemned the incident across the board and showed that it was concerned about the people of Pakistan. He strongly condemned the killing of the youth.

JUI-F leader Maulana Attaur Rehman said he respected the statement of Prime Minister Gilani over the incident and hoped that strict action would be taken against the accused.
