KARACHI, June 8: A couple was murdered inside their Korangi home allegedly by their son-in-law on Wednesday, police said.

They said suspect Sajid Sumar's wife had left him after one year of their marriage and he had a dispute over this matter with his in-laws.

“Sajid's wife left her husband's home some two-three months ago that triggered a dispute between the two sides,” said Inspector Abid Tanoli, the SHO of the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

“However, her parents told Sajid that she had never returned to their home and they had no knowledge about her whereabouts. However, Sajid had doubts that her in-laws had sent his wife to their ancestral village in southern Punjab.”Sajid came to his in-laws house in Mehran Goth in Sector-H Korangi on Wednesday morning. He and his in-laws exchanged words with each other and Sajid pulled out a TT pistol, fired multiple shots that hit 52-year-old Mushtaq Hussain and 47-year-old Saeeda Begum and escaped, the area SHO added.

“The wounded were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they died during the treatment. We have found five spent bullet casings from the crime-scene that suggested that a TT pistol was used,” he said.

The police registered a case (FIR 566/2011) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code against Sajid on the complaint of the victims' son.

Waiter shot dead

A waiter was gunned down in the Lyari area on Tuesday, police said.

They said that armed riders started firing at Anwar Bilal Hotel in the Lea Market area early in the morning and the bullets hit the owner, Saifullah, and his employee, Saif-ur-Rahman.

“Both were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi where 23-year-old Saif died. He hailed from Swat,” said Inspector Babar Hameed, the SHO of the Kalakot police station.

He said the wounded denied that he had any enmity.

However, he ruled out any extortion threat behind the armed attack.
