KARACHI, June 7: Tension gripped parts of Korangi on Tuesday after the early morning killing of a young activist of the Sindh National Party (SNP) in an armed attack that left another worker badly wounded, police said.

They said Shahzado Banglani, who was in his late-20s, was targeted by armed motorcyclists in Korangi 1 ½ near R Check Post, where he was waiting for a bus with his friend Pappu Bajkani.

“Witnesses said there were three assailants on a motorbike and two of them fired shots at Shahzado and Pappu,” said Inspector Amjed Kayani, the SHO of the Korangi police station. “It seems that their prime target was Shahzado, who sustained eight bullet wounds while Pappu was hit by two bullets. Shahzado died on the spot while his friend was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where his condition is said to be stable.”

The area SHO showed unawareness about the people and the motive behind the killing.

He said that the incident caused tension in the locality, mainly in Zia Colony, where rattle of heavy gunfire forced traders to pull down their shutters and kept the traffic off the roads.

A few hours later, SNP chairman Ameer Bhumbro told a press conference at the Karachi Press Club that the victims were workers of his party.

He condemned the incident and slammed the government which, he said, had no writ in Karachi.

Three found shot dead in city

The bullet-riddled bodies of three men were found in as many city areas on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a man was found shot dead near Steel Town on Tuesday, police said.

They said that the bullet-riddled body of 60-year-old Bugghan was found near a link road on the National Highway. He had sustained two bullet wounds in the chest and head.

“The victim originally hailed from Larkana and lived here in a rented place near the airport,” said Sub-Inspector Yaqoob Sammoo, the SHO of the Steel Town police station. “Initial findings suggest that he was first kidnapped and then killed by assailants, who dumped the body in an isolated area. He was employed by a lawyer as an office assistant.”

He said the body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities and the police were waiting for the victim’s family, which was due to arrive in Karachi, to lodge an FIR.

Similarly, the bullet-riddled body of a young man was found in Ittehad Town within the remit of the Saeedabad police station on Tuesday, police said.

They said 30-year-old Subhan Qamar was a resident of Frontier Colony in Orangi Town and had been missing since Monday evening.

“Some transporters spotted the body at a desolate place in Dawood Goth in Ittehad Town and informed the police about it,” said Inspector Manzoor Ahmed, the SHO of the Saeedabad police station.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination and from where it was moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for a want of identification, he said, adding that the body was finally identified by the victim’s family at the morgue.

“Initial interaction with the victim’s brother suggests that the youngster might have been fallen prey to a family feud,” the area SHO added.

In the third such incident, the bullet-riddled body of a youngster was found on Mauripur Road in Lyari Town.

An official at the Karli police station said that the body, which was stuffed in a gunny bag, lying abandoned along the Maripur Road near Crown Cinema.

“The victim was hit by a single bullet in the head while there were severe torture marks on the body,” he said, adding that the body was shifted to the Edhi morgue for a want of identification after completing medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital Karachi.
