Projects to improve parks

RAWALPINDI, June 7: The development projects with the cost of Rs9 million were initiated by the Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) to improve the condition of five parks in its jurisdiction.

Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa on Monday visited different parks and directed the RTMA Garden Branch to start the work to improve the condition of the parks. He also directed the contractors to complete the work within two months. He also warned them of strict action if quality of work was not maintained.

RTMA allocated Rs2.1 million for Behari Colony Park, Rs2.3 million for Sultan Shah Park, Rs3.3 million for Khushi Muhammad Park near Chandani Chowk and Rs400,000 for Bilal Park.

While giving briefing, RTMA Garden Branch In charge Chaudhry Muhammad Shabeer Ahmed said that the RTMA would also start the beautification and improvement of green belts at Liaquat Road, Saidpur Road, Khyaban-e-Sir Syed and Satellite Town’s roads and streets. — A Reporter

Trailer driver looted

ATTOCK, June 7: A trailer driver was deprived of cash and a sugar bag by three armed persons near Dhoke Patwari in the limit of Pindigheb police station on Tuesday.

Police sources said that trailer driver Muhammad Zulfiqar, resident of Talagang reported to Pindigheb Police station that some of the sugar bags fell on the road from the trailers near Dhoke Patwari. As he stopped the vehicle to reload the bags, three armed persons on a bike appeared and snatched Rs5,000 and a sugar bag from him and fled the scene. Pindigheb Po lice station registered a case against the accused and started investigation, sources added.

Meanwhile, three persons including two policemen were injured in a road accident in Attock city. Police said that policemen Saeed Ahmed and Muhammad Tanveer were going on the bike, when they were hit by an over speeding coach near Fatehjang Chowk. As a result, both the cops and the coach conductor sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.— Correspondent

Ukrainian envoy passes away

ISLAMABAD, June 7: Ukrainian Ambassador to Pakistan Ihor Pasko breathed his last at Shifa International Hospital here on Tuesday.

Mr Pasko, 54, was admitted to the hospital with kidney infection on Monday morning. Despite all-out efforts by the doctors, he could not survive and died on Tuesday.

Mr Pasko had been working in the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine since March 1992. He was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Pakistan on Feb 7, 2007. Pasko was born in 1956 in Kiev. He was married and had two sons.

Iftikhar Ali, General Secretary, Association of Pakistani Graduates from Russia and CIS countries (APGR & GS) expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the Ukrainian ambassador. He also expressed sympathies with the family of the ambassador.— Our Reporter

Two CDA members leave

ISLAMABAD, June 7: Two members of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have left after reaching superannuation and expiry of contract.

“Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani did not agree to extend the contract of Member Finance Saeedur Rehman,” Secretary Cabinet Nargis Sehti told a meeting of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet on Tuesday.

A senior CDA official said although they had not received formal notification about the removal of member finance, it is expected that he would not attend his office.

One year contract of Mr Rehman expired last year but he was given extension. Abdul Jabbar Milano, CDA’s member engineering, has also left after reaching superannuation. He has been replaced by Ibrar Hussain Shah, director general (electronic and mechanical). Mr Shah will look after the affairs of member engineering in addition to his own duties till further orders. — Staff Reporter
