LAHORE, June 6: Shahdara police claim to have arrested four extortionists, including a jail warder and a woman, for allegedly demanding Rs900,000 from a landlord, a relative of PML-N patron Nawaz Sharif.

Police also recovered Rs200,000 from the possession of the suspects.

According to Shahdara circle ASP Fazale Hamid, Muhammad Javed of Nain Sukh, Shahdara, complained to the police two weeks ago that some people had demanded Rs900,000 extortion with a threat that his only son would be murdered if their demand was not met.

He initially gave Rs200,000 fearing involvement of accomplices of one Akmal alias Akali who murdered his three women relatives.

Javed in association with the police invited the accused at some place in Shahdara but the accused changed three points because of police fear. Finally two suspects who met Javed at Imambargah Baba Sada Husain were taken into custody by police. They were identified as Imran and Saima.

On their indication, police also picked warder Abid Husain of Kot Lakhpat jail and Kashif who were threatening Javed in connivance with four murder convicts Shakeel, Abdul Majeed, Imran and Mudassir Munir.

The accused told police they used to get extortion from citizens on telephonic indication of Shakeel and accomplices.
