Two held for bank robbery

TAXILA, May 27: Police on Friday claimed of making  breakthrough in Rs2.4 million bank heist in which five robbers looted a private bank on Thursday. Two of the robbers were arrested and Rs1.2 million recovered from them.

Speaking at a press conference, SP Potohar division Farooq Joya said the police had made headway in just six hours after the incident. — Correspondent

Cash, jewellery looted

RAWALPINDI, May 27: Robbers struck at three places in the city and took away cash and gold jewellery at gunpoint, police said on Friday.

Dr Sumiya Naz, who works at the Military Hospital, told the R.A. Bazaar police that when she entered her house in Afshan Colony, she saw an armed man standing in the porch while another was waiting outside on a motorbike. She said the armed man snatched gold ornaments she was wearing, Rs5,000 and her cellphone.

In another incident, four robbers entered a shop in the Airport police area and held its owner and employees hostage.

Mohammad Shoaib, the shop’s owner, said the gunmen snatched Rs50,000, 10 cellphones, 100 phone cards and escaped.

Mohammad Nasir told the city police that four men entered his house and took away gold ornaments, cash and two cellphones. — Staff Reporter

Eight auto thieves arrested

ISLAMABAD, May 27: Eight auto-thieves were arrested and seven cars recovered from them by the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), a police spokesman said on Friday.

SSP Tahir Alam Khan, in a bid to step up efforts against the car lifters, constituted a special team under the supervision of in charge ACLC DSP Abdul Razzaq which succeeded in arresting eight auto thieves including car receivers.

The car receivers, who had been arrested from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, were identified as Shaukat Ali, Moazam Ali, Ajeer Khan and Waseem Ahmed. Efforts are in progress to shift them from Charsadda and Peshawar to Islamabad.

Four arrested auto-thieves were identified as Tariq, Zahid Gul, Ameer Jan and Sabia Naz. SSP Tahir Alam Khan appreciated the performance of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell and announced cash reward for the team. — Staff Reporter

TMA’s drive fails

RAWALPINDI, May 27: The deadline announced by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) regarding the removal of encroachment from the city fell behind with achieving the desired results.

Encroachment in different localities of city has become a big problem not only for motorists but also for the pedestrians, while the concerned authorities seem least bothered. — APP
