ISLAMABAD, May 22: A man who threw acid on his wife last week was arrested on Sunday, police said.

Nagina, 30, a resident of a slum area in Shehzad Town who works as maid, was critically injured when her husband Mohammad Irfan threw acid on her on May 19.

In a statement, she said her husband was a drug addict and jobless.

She said as he used to beat her, she demanded divorce from him.

After it, Irfan started threatening her of dire consequences and threw acid on her near the house where she was working as maid.

Taking notice of the incident, Minister for Interior Rehman Malik had directed the IGP Islamabad to arrest the culprit.

Police had raided the house of husband in Faisalabad. But on Sunday they arrested Irfan from Islamabad.

The woman is hospitalised at Pims. — APP
