KARACHI, May 21: Two bullet-riddled bodies were found in separate areas of the city on Saturday, police said.

In the first incident, the body of a young man stuffed in a gunny bag was found in the Lea Market area, the local police said.

A shopkeeper in the area informed the police about the presence of a suspicious-looking bag in the Old Kumarwara area, the police said.

“The police found a body inside the bag bearing marks of torture and bullet wounds,” said Sub-Inspector Shahid Mahmood, the SHO of the Napier police station.

“The body was shifted to the civil hospital for medico-legal formalities where the victim was identified as 27-year-old Shahid Yousuf. He was a resident of Nayaabad in Lyari and had been missing since Friday evening,” the police officer said.

He said that the victim’s family remained tight-lipped about his personal details and was not willing to pursue legal formalities.

“However, after several attempts to convince them, we have registered an FIR (60/2011) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified killers,” added the SHO.

In the other incident, a young man was found shot dead in North Nazimabad area, police said.

The area police said that the body was found along a wall of Azeem Shah Bukhari’s shrine near the People’s Chowrangi within the remit of the Taimuria police station.

“The victim looks to be in his mid-20s and sustained two bullet wounds, each in the head and the chest,” said Inspector Imran Zaidi, the SHO of the Taimuria police station.

“He was wearing trousers and a T-shirt and initial medico-legal examination at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital suggests that he was killed at least six hours before his body was found.”

He said investigators were tracing the family of the victim before registering an FIR.

The body has been moved to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.
