Woman commits suicide

NOWSHERA, May 18: A woman committed suicide while two other sustained injuries as a result of armed clash over a minor dispute in two separate incidents here on Wednesday.

Police said that Haq Naz Bibi, who was married to Abbas Khan two months back in Nezampure area, committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan. She took the extreme step after routine domestic quarrelling and exchange of hot words, police added.

In the other incident, two men sustained serious injuries when a group attacked rivals over a minor dispute at Dag Baisud. Police have registered a case and started investigation. —Correspondent

Weapons, drugs seized

KOHAT, May 18: Police recovered a huge quantity of weapons and drugs from 37 criminals during an operation in the villages located along the restive tribal areas here on Wednesday.

DPO Mubarek Zeb in a statement issued by the media cell said that the police Elite Force was directed to raid the mountainous areas along the borders with Orakzai Agency and Darra Adamkhel and arrest the suspicious people and criminals.

The police teams searched the areas of Marai Bala, Mitha Khan, Ghamkol camp, Bazidkhel, Kharmato, Ghulam Banda, Bilitang, Mian Garhi and Siyab and arrested 37 criminals.

Two time bombs, 3,188 cartridges, 19 Kalashnikovs, three Kalakovs, 38 shotguns, 23 rifles, 79 pistols, 59 chargers, 39kg hashish and liquor were also recovered in the raids. —Correspondent

Teenagers killed in Karak

KARAK, May 18: Two teenagers were killed in separate cases of firing here, police said on Wednesday.

In the first incident, 18-year-old Mohsin alias Saddam was going home from Terri Bazaar on Tuesday night when he was attacked by unidentified men.

Mohsin was shifted to the Civil Hospital with serious gunshot wounds. He was later referred to Peshawar where he succumbed to his injuries at Leady Reading Hospital.

In the other incident, 17-year-old Rafaqat was killed by some unknown persons in Isak Khumari village and his body was thrown in a deserted place.

Terri police have registered separate cases and started investigation. —Correspondent

Cheques distributed

LAKKI MARWAT, May 18: The Tanzeem Lissail-i-Wal Mahroom in collaboration with the district elementary and secondary education department held a ceremony in district council hall here on Wednesday to distribute financial stipend among the orphan students.

Assistant Coordination Officer Syed Khalid Israr Shah and ESED EDO Haji Abdul Malik distributed cheques among the students. ESED district officer Mohammad Ayyub, TLWM assistant manager welfare Sirajuddin, assistant manager health Azizur Rehman and office-bearers of teachers’ bodies were also present on the occasion.

The officials gave away cheques worth Rs588,000 to 88 orphan students of the district as part of chief minister’s programme to help them continue their education. —Correspondent

Telephone facility

CHITRAL, May 18: The general manager of PTCL North, Wajeeh Anwar, has assured the people of Chitral that the company will extend services to every nook and corner of the district within a short span of time.

Addressing the gathering of the delegations drawn from all the 24 union councils of the district at Town Hall here on Wednesday, he said that recently the wireless local loop telephone facility had been inaugurated in the three remote valleys of Bumburate, Bumbagh and Karimabad.

Mr Anwar said that it was his commitment and desire to solve the telecommunication problems of the people of distant valleys.

He also announced to extend the DSL facility to the district within a month which was highly appreciated by the delegations. —Correspondent

Obituary

PESHAWAR, May 18: Haji Saleem Khan Afridi, father of senior civil servant Omar Khan Afridi, Major Ihsanullah Afridi and Manager Hanifullah Afridi, breathed his last here on Wednesday after protracted illness. He was 80.

The deceased was later laid to rest at the Cantonment Graveyard. Rasm-e-Qul for the departed soul would be held at Northern Garden Coloney, Warsak Road here on Friday. —Bureau Report
