20 suspects arrested

ISLAMABD, May 11: As many as 20 suspects were arrested and 130 vehicles were impounded by the capital police on Wednesday during general hold-up, police said.

The capital police set up dozens of pickets at different roads while snap checking was also done. During the hold-up, the police arrested 20 suspects who failed to prove their identity. Besides, the police also impounded 103 motorcycles and 27 cars.

The Golra police recovered a 7MM rifle and arrested a court absconder, while the Nilor police arrested a court absconder, a proclaimed offender and recovered four pistols.

The Abpara and Kural police recovered a pistol and seven bottles of liquor respectively during the hold-up.Meanwhile, the capital police arrested 16 persons including three women and recovered a stolen motorcycle, 325 gram heroin, 1.2 kilogram hashish, two 30-bore pistols from them, police spokesman said. The Sabzi Mandi police raided a house and arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in sex-trade. The police also arrested three beggars.— Staff Reporter

Police officials reshuffled

GUJAR KHAN, May 11: Following the May 4 riots which claimed two lives, the police officials posted in the tehsil were reshuffled on Wednesday.

According to police sources, DSP Raja Tahir Bashir was transferred and directed to report to the office of the regional police officer while SHO Malik Asif Mahmood was transferred to the police lines Rawalpindi. Malik Irshad Hussain, DSP Kahuta was given the additional charge of SDPO Gujar Khan and Inspector Raja Mushataq was posted as SHO Gujar Khan. Meanwhile, the local notables, President Gujar Khan bar association and local newsmen called on Assistant Commissioner Ch Rab Nawaz Minhas in his office. XEN Iesco was also present on the occasion. The participants of the meeting agreed to devise a mutually acceptable schedule of the loadshedding. — Correspondent

Case against heroin addicts

RAWALPINDI, May 11: A case of attempting suicide was registered against two addicts inside the lockup of Waris Khan police station on Tuesday.

Police said the two heroin addicts were arrested from a shrine the other day and put behind bars. But the addicts started demanding heroin and created a fuss inside the lockup. Seeing that the police was not interested in fulfilling their demand, one of them stood upon the shoulders of other and tried to reach for the bulb. Constable Mohammad Sarwar rushed inside the lockup and brought them down, police said.

A senior official said arrested addicts routinely create problems for the police. He added that first aid was provided to the two addicts and another case of attempting suicide was registered against them.—Staff Reporter

Unauthorised parking lots

ISLAMABAD, May 11: The unauthorised parking lots on the busy roads of Islamabad and Rawalpindi put hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic.

At various points including Commercial Market, Saddar, Raja Bazaar, Double Road, Aabpara, Peshawar Mor, G-8 Markaz shopkeepers display their saleable items on the pavements while motorists park their vehicles along the roads forcing the pedestrians to walk on the road.— APP
