Boy’s body found

ISLAMABAD, May 7: Body of a teenage boy was found in the Fatimah Jinnah Park on Saturday with his throat being slit, police said.

The incident came to light when some morning walkers spotted the body in bushes. They informed the police who took the body in their custody. Its close examination suggested that the victim throat was slit with a knife. A knife, believed to be used in slitting him, was also found lying beside the victim. The police shifted the body to hospital for pending identification and legal process. — Staff Reporter

Victim of police firing

GUJAR KHAN, May 7: The second victim of the police firing incident during May 4 riots has been identified as Aimal Khan, an Afghan national.

The body of 12-year-old Aimal Khan, a scavenger, was shifted to his native town Laghman near Kabul after the identification and other legal proceedings.

Two persons were killed and several others injured when police fired on the protesters who turned violent during a protest against loadshedding.

One of the deceased was identified on the second day as Mohammad Junaid. The boy’s body remained in the mortuary of DHQ Hospital, Rawalpindi, after print media published his picture, he was identified.

Meanwhile, SSP operations Rawalpindi suspended another Sub Inspector Zaheerud Din Babar for mishandling the situation. —Correspondent

Lawyers protest

ATTOCK, May 7: The lawyers in the district courts on Saturday observed complete strike in protest against the US forces’ action in Abbottabad.

The lawyers boycotted the court proceedings on the call of the district bar association. The litigants and under trail prisoners had to face a lot of problems due to the strike. —Correspondent

Young doctors plan strike

TAXILA, May 7: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has announced that its members will go on a strike again in the outpatient and inpatient departments of all public sector hospitals from May 11 if the Punjab government failed to meet their demands.

President YDA Taxila and Rawalpindi chapter Dr Imran Younus flanked by General Secretary Dr Ghulam Abbas told a press conference here that after organising a ‘save health convention’ in Lahore on Wednesday, the YDA took representatives of civil society, lawyers and politicians on board and gave one-week’s time to the government to accept their demands. “From May 11, the strike will start in OPDs and IPDs in Punjab; however, doctors in emergency wards, ICUs and critical areas will continue working as per routine.” “The YDA Punjab will also announce a date for the planned long march next week,” said Dr Imran. — Correspondent

Nine outlaws arrested

ISLAMABAD, May 7: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested nine accused including a proclaimed offender involved in several criminal activities and recovered looted items including laptops, computers and mobile phones from their possession, a police spokesman said.

Following the directions of SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan to launch massive crackdown on the criminal elements, DSP CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon and his team arrested nine notorious criminals involved in criminal activities in the areas of Sabzi Mandi, Bhara Kahu, Shahzad Town and Kohsar police stations.

Meanwhile, Margallah police arrested an alleged thief while the Golra police nabbed a man for carrying hashish.

SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan appreciated the CIA team and directed them to continue efforts against such elements. — Staff Reporter

Welfare projects

TAXILA, May 7: A sum of Rs35.30 million is being spent on development projects in the urban and rural areas of Taxila Cantonment.

This was stated by Cantonment Executive Officer Taxila Rana Khawar Iftikhar Ahmed while briefing newsmen about the ongoing and future projects aimed at improving the living standard of the residents.

He said the cantonment board had spent Rs17 million on provision of better educational facilities, improvement and construction of drainage lines, construction of streets, expansion and carpeting of roads and laying sewerage lines. He said Rs18.30 million would be spent on construction of streets, establishment of sewerage and improvement of drainage system in village Shahpur, Bhir Dargahi, Dhoke Wajjan, Karmwal, Muslim Colony, Hassan Colony, Bilal Colony, Haideri Town and Kohar Colony. — Correspondent
