LARKANA, April 25: A man killed his wife on the pretext of karo-kari on Monday. The man was arrested by police.

An employ of the Irrigation Department, Ashiq Ali Khokhar killed his 25-year-old wife with an axe in Rasoolabad in the jurisdiction of Civil Lines police station.

Sources said that the couple were married two years ago but were issueless.

Police said that the man surrendered himself along with the weapon of murder but according to neighbours, he was arrested while trying to flee from there.

Ashiq alleged that his wife was having illicit relations with a neighbour.

Brother of deceased woman, Ajeeb, had lodged an FIR against Ashiq and his brother Shuban Khokhar, said police. Ajeeb claimed that his sister was innocent and was killed under unfounded charges.

The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy while Shuban was still at large. Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds:

A youth was gunned down by bandits when he tried to catch them during an armed robbery in Satellite town here on Monday.

According to reports, three bandits barged into Seth Manga Ram's house, held inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted gold ornaments and cash.

When they were fleeing, a relative of Manga Ram, Manesh Kumar, 17, tried to catch them but he was shot at by a bandit and died on the spot.

Mirpurkhas DPO Riaz Soomro suspended police personnel whose duty it was to patrol the area where the robbery was committed.
