LAHORE, April 25: Harbanspura police on Monday arrested a ‘couple’ two days after they allegedly tortured their six-year-old maid to death and threw her body at a deserted place near Muridke.

Police said Asif of Gulshan Park and his wife Yasmeen of Ghaziabad thrashed Laiba of Sialkot and hit her with a stick after she allegedly pissed in the kitchen.

Cantonment SP (Operations) Sarfraz Ahmad Virk told Dawn that Asif and Yasmeen took Laiba to Services Hospital with a fractured arm and critical wounds to her head and she died after her wounds were stitched on Saturday.

The couple, instead of informing Laiba’s mother Fauzia who lives in Sialkot with her second husband, received the body from the hospital with an excuse that the girl was injured in an accident at home and threw her body outside the city to save their skin. He said a neighbour of Asif alerted Rescue 15 police about the incident.

The SP said a police team found Asif’s house locked and later took the couple into custody from another area of the city. He said Yasmeen told the police that her friend Fauzia handed her two children to her after her second marriage.

Laiba’s 13-year-old brother is currently living at the house of another family, the SP said, adding that Yasmeen told the police that Laiba pissed in the kitchen when she was cooking meal.

He said Laiba’s body was traced with the help of Asif and Yasmeen and sent to Mayo Hospital for an autopsy. He said a murder case had been registered against Asif and Yasmeen and they were handed over to the investigation police.
