ISLAMABAD, April 23: The Golra police claimed to have solved a blind murder case after over five months and arrested two persons.

The murder incident took place on November 16, 2010, in a house at Dhoke Kashmirian, G-14/2. The incident came to light when the owner of the house found the body of a man lying in a bedroom when he arrived there for signing an agreement with his new tenants.

Later, the police shifted the body to hospital where the autopsy report revealed that the victim was strangled to death. The owner of the house told the police that he had rented his house to three persons on November 13, 2010, but visited the house to sign the agreement three days later.

The owner said after entering the house he found the gate unlocked and the body lying inside. He gave a cellphone number to the police through which one of the persons identified as Jehangir had talked to him to get the house on rent.

However, the details, including CNIC number, against which the SIM was issued, turned out to be fake.

SP (Saddar) Dr Khurram Rasheed constituted a team under supervision of DSP Malik Tahir Mehmud and consisting of SI Fayyaz Shenwari, ASI Asif Khan and head constable Khaista Khan.

Later, the victim was identified as Rehman Shehzad, 30, the manager of a junkyard in Lahore, after his family approached the police on November 22, 2010. The police visited Shehzad’s office and found a piece of paper on which ‘Jehangir’ and ‘Chongi No 26’ were written. The family provided the victim’s cellphone number through which the investigators traced and arrested the murder accused from Abbottabad.

The police are now hunting for the third accomplice of the accused who they said was hiding in Sindh.

During interrogation, the accused - Jehangir Hazrat of Kohistan and Balawar Khan of Buner - told the police that they had some month long acquaintance with the victim and met him on three occasions. Considering him a wealthy man, they decided to kidnap him for ransom.

The accused persuaded Shehzad to start a junkyard business with them. On November 15, they along with the victim reached the capital and visited some sites in different areas for setting up of the junkyard business in partnership. Later, they brought the victim to the house which they had hired in the capital’s rural area and made him hostage. They asked the victim to call his family and arrange ransom money for his release.

However, the victim, brother of five sisters, told them that his family cannot arrange the money. Besides, the victim also refused to give the contact number of his family.

On this, the accused allegedly strangled him to death and escaped from the scene along with the victims’ valuables, including a mobile phone and cash.
