LAHORE, April 19: An anti-terrorism court on Tuesday granted a 12-day physical remand of four terror suspects allegedly involved in the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team after the police said they wanted further interrogation.
The court handed over the accused -- Mohsin Rasheed, Muhammad Javed Anwar alias Chaudhry Waqas, Qari Muhammad Ishfaq and Ubaid-ur-Rehman Qamar alias Khalid Zubair -- to police on a physical remand. Previously, the court had handed over the accused to police for identification parade.
The court directed the police to produce the accused arrested by the CIA police again on April 30 along with investigation report.
In the attack six policemen escorting the team were killed while as many Sri Lankan players -- Captain Mahela Jayawaredene, his deputy Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera, Tharanga Paranavitana and Chaminda Vaas -- had sustained injuries. Earlier, police had arrested Abdul Wahab alias Umer and Zubair alias Naik Muhammad in this case.
As per initial investigation report, terror suspects had a plan to take the guest cricket team hostage to get some arrested militants belonging to Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan released.The latest arrests were made in the light of information extracted from the two arrested terrorists, Zubair alias Naik Muhammad and Abdul Wahab.
