LAHORE: Usman Salahuddin, the new arrival in Pakistan's limited-overs squad, considers himself lucky to be picked after just one prolific domestic season as the youngster seeks to launch his international career impressively on the tour of the West Indies.

“I am delighted over the selection. I will try my best to come up to the expectations of the selectors who have picked me after watching my performance in just one domestic season,” Usman, a middle-order batsman, said.

“I want to start my international career in an outstanding fashion and if I get a chance [in the playing eleven] I will try to begin my international career with a century,” Usman added.

Usman caught the selectors' attention after scoring 927 runs for Lahore in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy.

Naming Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan's world-class batsman, as his inspiration, Usman asserted he would like to emulate the classical batsman.

“As Yousuf is also a middle-order batsman I prefer this department for myself. And I would like to serve my country as he did,” he expressed.
