RAWALPINDI, March 23: A senior clerk and police constable of the City Police Office (CPO) Rawalpindi and Gujranwala were arrested in fraud case after departmental inquiry found them making bogus entries on police seniority list, official sources said.

The departmental inquiry was launched after the Gujranwala City Police Officer through a letter to his counterpart in Rawalpindi, SSP Operation, Yasin Farooq brought his attention towards the bogus entry of a police constable Mohammad Ishfaq on seniority list. The constable was transferred to Gujranwala in March 2010.

While joining his new posting, the constable brought his service record along with him and presented it to the clerk. Later, when Gujranwala CPO got suspicious about his service record, he wrote to his counterpart in Rawalpindi to verify it.

Though the clerical staff of the CPO office, Rawalpindi, was reluctant to give the details of Mohammad Ishfaq's service record required by the CPO Gujranwala, the said constable was posted to Punjab Constabulary (PC), Farooqabad.

The PC battalion commander also wrote to the then Rawalpindi CPO seeking verification of constable's the service record but he could not get any response. However, later it was emerged that one of the senior clerks of the CPO office Rawalpindi, Farakh Nadeem, had never forwarded the letter to the CPO.

However, the Rawalpindi CPO responded to his counterpart in Gujranwala on Feb 14, 2011 in which he said his office did not have the record of constable's seniority in the police files and all those documents he had presented while joining the new posting in Gujranwala were bogus.

Constable Mohammad Ishfaq during interrogation revealed that he had handed over his service record to Shoab Haider, a senior clerk at the Gujranwala CPO office.

During investigation, the involvement of the senior clerk Shoab Haider in bogus entries was also found.

Two of the accused, constable Ishfaq and clerk Farakh Nadeem have been arrested while the third one was still at large.
