ISLAMABAD, March 11: Roaming in high security areas, two imposters were arrested in the twin cities on Friday – one in police uniform and the other in burqa, police said.

Margalla police said the man in police uniform roaming around the heavily guarded Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) building claimed that collecting details of policemen and their photos was his 'hobby'. The man in burqa was arrested from Qasim Market in Rawalpindi's cantonment area.

The man in police uniform with the ranks of a sub-inspector was spotted by personnel deployed around the FIA building.

He introduced himself as Umair Khalid and produced a 'police department card'. But the card turned to be forged as it had monograms of the capital police, FIA and the Crime Branch. He was arrested and shifted to Margalla police station.

Police said the photo on the forged card was of a senior officer of the capital police, with whom Khalid has close resemblance. A USB drive recovered from him carried the photographs and details of police officers of Punjab and Islamabad.

He told the investigators that the 'card' was scanned from the official website of the capital police. Similarly, the FIA's monogram was also scanned from its official website.

Khalid, who works with an international pizza outlet and lives in Professor Colony of New Shakrial in Rawalpindi, said collecting photos and details of policemen was his hobby.

In Rawalpindi, the man in burqa spotted in Saddar on Friday morning turned out to be Shahid Khan Khattak, an engineer working in a government department. Sources said the man, son of a retired army officer, was handed over to an intelligence agency.

Superintendent of Police Traffic Ishtiaq Hussain Shah said a traffic warden near Qasim Market spotted the man acting suspiciously and informed the emergency police. As the warden started chasing him, the man moved towards Chairing Cross and got into a taxi. But the law enforcement agencies personnel forced him out of the cab and arrested him. After his arrest, his car parked near the Qasim Market was also found and shifted to an undisclosed location.

Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas said the man had been handed over to the civil agencies for interrogation. “He is not with the army.”

Earlier, it was feared that the man was allegedly carrying a suicide jacket and wanted to blow it up near the traffic police office. But the senior police officials did not confirm the claim.
