HARIPUR, Feb 26: A man was shot dead over a minor dispute during a marriage ceremony in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station here on Friday evening. The accused was later arrested by the police. Saddar police said that Zahid, son of Sher Afzal of Serae Saleh area, was firing into the air during the marriage ceremony of Asad Shah. A man of the same locality, namely Qadeer, tried to stop Zahid from firing, which led to an exchange of hot words between the two. Zahid opened fire with his 30-bore pistol in a fit of anger, injuring Qadeer critically. The injured was taken to Women and Children Hospital Haripur where the doctors pronounced him dead.

Police quoted Mohammad Sharif as saying that his daughter was married to Mohammad Akram of Mohallah Peeranwal Talokar but she was not happy due to rude attitude of her husband. He said that Akram used to subject her to severe violence against which he had come to his daughter’s house to ask her husband to desist from doing so.

But Akram along with his younger brother Asif opened fire at him with pistols injuring him in the legs. The injured was shifted to Women and Children Hospital.

Meanwhile, a recklessly driven Suzuki pick-up hit and injured a man on Tarbela Road. Police and eyewitnesses said a man in his 50s was crossing the Tarbela Road when a speeding Suzuki pick-up (No PR-1026) coming from Khalabat Township side hit him.

The injured was taken to Women and Children Hospital where he was identified as Pervez Khan of village Chaintri. The injured was later referred to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad. —Correspondent
