MIRAMSHAH, Feb 2: One Pakistani soldier was killed and seven others were injured in an exchange of fire with Afghan troops in a border area in North Waziristan on Wednesday.
According to sources, the clash erupted after a barrage of mortar shells fired from the Afghan side hit the Bangi Dar post, near Ghulam Khan town, jointly manned by the army and Frontier Corps.
A senior security official denied reports that Pakistani forces had fired back at a base of coalition forces inside Afghanistan. He also denied that there had been clashes between the two sides. An investigation into the incident was under way, he added.
“This is true that shells fired from across the border landed inside North Waziristan, but our troops did not respond,” he said, adding that one soldier had been killed and several others injured. The soldier was identified as Halwaldar Pervez.
The sources said that shells were fired at about 10.30am from a base set up by Nato and Afghan National Army in Tangarhi area near the border.
